gRPC in Java used to mean proto files, code gen, build plugins, server wiring, client channels. A lot of busywork before "hello world." Spring Boot 4.1 fixes most of it. Spring Boot 4.1 adds one property: spring.datasource.connection-fetch=lazy Your transactional methods grab a connection the moment they open, even when they never run a query. A cache hit, an early return, a slow API call before the save. That connection sits idle. Lazy waits until a statement actually runs. I built a demo that proves it with HikariCP metrics. We are pleased to announce that Spring for Apache Kafka 4.1.0-RC1, 4.0.5, and 3.3.15 have been released. 4.1.0-RC1 release continues share consumer work (ShareAckMode, asynchronous acknowledgment commits with AcknowledgementCommitCallback, validation for share.acquire.mode (KIP-1206), further lifecycle events on the share listener container) and updates Kafka Streams for groupProtocol (KIP-1071) and for KIP-1034 native DLQ handling in the recovering exception handlers. The 4.0.5 and 3.3.15 patch releases contain various fixes, enhancements and maintenance updates.
