@mynlcorner Locate the nest during the day, but only try to get rid of it at night! If near the ground, spray dish soap on it, then squash and shop vac up. If it's hanging from eaves, or under stairs or deck - better to use a foaming spray for wasps (WD40 works too but a tad flammable)

@sprochester I looked it up and found an illustration of the discs in the larvae next to an adult insect with everything color coded and all I can think about is the retractable swords that you flick to expand but with limbs 😂

I think I'm in a cocoon phase. Like, I was one thing before and then I wrapped myself up now I'm alone and I know I've dissolved. I also know, though, that my dissolved self still knows itself & will reform into a new creature. I just need to be patient. I'll be a butterfly soon

@ironyandash During the cocoon phase when everything is turning into caterpillar soup, the imaginal discs use that soup as nourishment (they are the only things that don't turn into soup) and eventually they become the structure of the butterfly - wings, legs, eyes etc

Finally - stop judging everyone based on what you think is appropriate. Families are strange things.

I will also add - kids don't owe their parents care. I know ya'll like to act as if caring about your parents means you will provide care when they are elderly. People are living much longer, and relationships that were strained before dementia do not improve with it.

I've seen this kind of comment so often and as someone who has been providing in home care for elderly parents for a long time there are so many reasons people don't call - old folks can get stubborn & reclusive especially when dementia is a factor

@rlegrow That step-down facility which was supposed to open approx 2 years after new waterford, will not open for 5-7 years. It's still possible that they'll cobble something together in the interim, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

These are all valuable programs but considering the desperate need for more intensive mental health & addiction interventions in NL, I'm not sure how effective these small one-off grants (totalling $200k) will be. How about those promised community beds? gov.nl.ca/releases/2025/…
