Today, after a 75-day DHS shutdown, Congress finally acted. That’s the problem. If the government shuts down, members of Congress shouldn’t get paid. Families are forced to work without pay. That means missed rent, mortgages, and bills. Congress should feel that same pressure as other government employees going without a paycheck. Closed government. No pay. Do your job.

Today’s decision from the U.S. Supreme Court weakens one of the most important civil rights laws in our nation’s history. The Voting Rights Act was passed to protect the fundamental right to vote, especially for Black and brown communities who have too often been denied a fair voice in our democracy. By narrowing how the law can be used to challenge discriminatory maps, the Court has made it harder to fight back when representation is diluted. Let’s be clear: when maps are drawn to weaken the power of Black and brown voters, our democracy is weakened. A vote must carry equal weight, or it isn’t truly a vote at all. We have a responsibility to protect it, strengthen it, and ensure it works for everyone.

I had a great conversation with InsiderNJ yesterday about the state of our campaign and the issues that matter most: lowering costs, affordable housing, expanding access to healthcare, holding the administration accountable, and actually getting things done. We also discussed the lawsuit we filed when the political machine tried to block our message from the ballot. We took action and we won. I’m not a career politician. I’m a problem solver. They tried to block our message. We fought back—and we won. Just days before ballots were finalized, there was a last-minute attempt to force us to change our slogan. But the law is clear—and the Division of Elections rejected it. Our slogan, “Middlesex County Democrats for Change,” will be on the ballot. We cannot keep drifting into wars without debate or accountability. Foreign policy should be grounded in diplomacy, not preemptive war. And if the United States is going to war with Iran, Congress must authorize it. That’s what the Constitution requires.

The arrest of Don Lemon is a chilling attack on press freedom. A journalist covering a story shouldn’t be hauled into custody like a criminal. This sets a dangerous precedent for the First Amendment in America. We must defend free speech and independent reporting NOW.
