one thing freelancing taught me: clients rarely care how elegant your code is. they care that their problem disappears. the best engineers i know optimize for outcomes first, code second.

7/n builder lesson: every piece of duplicated state becomes something you have to keep in sync. if a value can be derived reliably, don't store it. your future self will thank you.

6/n instead of fixing the bug, i removed the possibility of the bug existing. i deleted the status column. one source of truth. the bug disappeared.
