Here's a story. About yeast. And I swear, this story is about more than just what happens inside your bread. Let's begin. nature.com/articles/s4146…

Researchers at @iitmadras and the Technical University of Denmark (@DTUtweet) have discovered how interactions between genetic variants act as “switches” that unlock hidden metabolic pathways. Published in Nature Communications, the study shows how two yeast variants, when combined, activated a dormant arginine biosynthesis pathway, reprogramming metabolism and proving that genes working together can create entirely new outcomes. This breakthrough offers critical insights into complex diseases like cancer, diabetes, and neurodegenerative disorders, paving the way for personalised medicine with more precise biomarkers and drug targets. Beyond healthcare, the findings hold promise for synthetic biology, microbial engineering, and precision agriculture, where engineered gene interactions could improve biofuels, pharmaceuticals, and crop resilience. The discovery redefines our understanding of gene–gene interactions and opens new frontiers in healthcare and biotechnology. #IITMadras #Genetics #Innovation #Research #PersonalisedMedicine

Molecules speak in atoms and bonds. LLMs can learn that language. Even with SOTA #denovo design, our largest molecular LLM study finds a plot twist: early saturation, weak scaling, and proxy metrics that mislead on real tasks! Led by @kchitsaz and @roshan_msb 🧵 More in thread:

Genetic interactions can activate unique pathways & modulate complex traits. Our @srijithbt multi-omic study on yeast sporulation reveals how 2 SNPs can trigger metabolic trade-off by increasing amino acid metabolism & downregulating ribosome biogenesis... x.com/biorxiv_sysbio…
