Most leaders value loyalty. Great leaders put a higher premium on integrity. Loyalty is allegiance to power. You're expected to show deference and follow orders. Integrity is allegiance to principles. You're expected to challenge orders that violate your mission or values.

The best antidote to burnout is not teaching people coping skills to handle stress. It's redesigning work to reduce stress. The cure for exhaustion is removing overwhelming demands and the norm of self-sacrifice. Healthy workplaces value well-being as much as performance.

Narcissistic leaders are threatened by talent. They want to be the smartest person in the room. Humble leaders are drawn to talent. They surround themselves with people who make them smarter. Great leaders grow talent. They strive to make everyone in the room smarter.

So goes the leader, so goes the culture. So goes the culture, so goes the company.

Sure, there are “meetings that could have been emails,” but there are also emotionally rich face-to-face human conversations that help us avoid misunderstandings, broken relationships, missed opportunities, and months spent moving in the wrong direction.

@johncutlefish But more important than the research, this process gets everyone involved. Their voice is heard, and they feel part of the process or solution.

I find it really interesting that we as #prodmgmt people stress empathizing with our customers and forget to empathize with our colleagues at work. When you understand where people are coming from, you can solve conflict a lot easier.
