Thank you so much to everyone who came to our session! It was inspiring to see how many people are invested in equity work in our field. If you enjoyed the session, here’s a little reading list for your consideration:

Thrilled to share that my MPH masters paper project was accepted to RIME for @AAMCtoday LSL this year! This critical scoping review aims to shed light on the reasons underlying the disparate departure of URiM trainees and physicians from academic medicine. journals.lww.com/academicmedici…

Hey y'all - North Carolina here. 👋 In NC, our minimum wage is still just the federal minimum: $7.25/hour. So let's do a side-by-side comparison of what happened when the Democrats in Virginia began hiking your state's minimum wage. Turns out: unemployment in Virginia actually fell, and has remained low for years. Not only did Virginia workers enjoy a lower unemployment rate, but their hourly earnings also rose. Of course, Virginia's big corporate lobby squealed like a stuck pig when Democrats began raising the minimum wage. Guys like this - many of whom are paid pundits - predicted a recession, job losses, and general doomsday. But in the real world, none of that actually happened. Raising the minimum wage is good for low-wage workers and great for local economies. It helps tilt the playing field back towards those who actually work in those economies, and North Carolina should follow Virginia's lead.

If you’re a small business owner in Virginia, you need to understand what’s coming. Right now, Virginia’s minimum wage is $12 an hour. With Democrats now in full control of Richmond, they are absolutely going to raise that to at least $15 an hour—and likely push higher. Here’s what that means for you. If you’re paying your employees $17 or $18 an hour today, that feels like good, competitive pay. But the moment the government hikes minimum wage to $15, that same $18 doesn’t look so competitive anymore. Your experienced workers will suddenly be only three dollars above a brand-new hire walking in off the street. And they’re going to expect that gap to stay the same. That’s wage compression. And it hits small businesses the hardest. This isn’t just about workers making $12 an hour. It’s about everyone making $13, $15, $17, or $18—all of whom will expect raises just to keep the pay hierarchy they had before. When payroll goes up, your margins get tighter. When margins get tighter, prices increase. When prices increase, customers pull back. It’s a chain reaction that small businesses feel first and feel worst. I’m not saying don’t pay people well. I’m saying you better prepare—because the policies headed your way next session will make it harder to hire, harder to retain, and harder to stay competitive. Virginia’s small businesses deserve a voice before these mandates come crashing down. They won’t have it in the New Democrat controlled General Assembly.

One of our most important career decisions is who we marry. People earn more—and are happier—if their spouses are dependable and hardworking. Conscientious partners give more support and model better habits. We don't only benefit from our loved ones' strengths; we absorb them.

No, Mr. President. You do not have the right to take away student debt forgiveness from teachers, nurses, veterans and other public servants if they do not show loyalty to your right-wing political agenda. This is a democracy, not a dictatorship. Rescind this illegal rule.

🚨A new @Forbes report details how Medicare pays physicians 33.6% less than a decade ago (when adjusted for inflation). This broken system threatens patient access and practice viability. It's time for real Medicare payment reform—no more temporary fixes. omniscienthealth.com/ebrief/2025-om…

The FLDOT paved over the rainbow crosswalk at the Pulse memorial last night. This comes after state and federal directives ordered its removal. LGBTQ+ people deserve representation everywhere, but especially when mourning the 2nd deadliest mass shooting in American history.
