@BiswapriyaMisra Exactly thats what my literature research suggests, too. High acetate -> infection/injury/… However the patients were all perfectly healthy.

@ssHeinzmann As I read here: “N-acetylneuraminidine (NeuNAc), N-acetylglutamine (GIcNAc) and acetate are metabolites present in normal urine. In patients treated with aminoglycosides and/or glycopeptides, elevation of these metabolites in urine suggests renal tubular injury.”

@drchrispook Free acetate. As seen with NMR spectroscopy. Acetylated metabolites would habe a slightly different chemical shift.

@ssHeinzmann By 'acetate' do you mean free acetate anions or acetylated metabolites?

🤔 Having trouble identifying unknown metabolites in urine samples? 💡 Take lots of urine samples (e.g. a human cohort), a #NMR 🧲spectrometer, our new 📝workflow and identify microbial vs endogenous #metabolites! ➡️ t1p.de/5x3qu @MetabolitesMDPI A thread 🧵

6/ What’s new? 1) We suggest to add the CLASSY analysis to the 🧲NMR metabolomics identification workflow 2) We suggest a data-driven classification of metabolites to microbial vs endogenous origin 3) We identify several microbial and (potential) coffee biomarkers in urine

A LOT of work by multiple team members and collaborators ⭐️ turned into a nice manuscript @CellPressNews describing the expanded mouse intestinal bacterial collection (miBC)⭐️: doi.org/10.1016/j.chom…. A thread summarizing this resource that we hope will be useful to many. 01/16
