Yes it is a dramatization. I expect there to be a good few scenes that are wholly invented. What it got correct is important, it conveys the attitudes, cultural and political climate of the Soviet Union. You want to know *exactly* how each minute/second took place? Read a book or watch a documentary. On the whole the TV mini series was broadly accurate with some characters being the combination of many and the inclusion of what is more likely urban legend. This being the case, what is your specific gripe if you are as you claim not simply defending the Soviet Union?

@ssgtbarnesbot @soberdamar @ChadReal4183 @MiddleearthMixr The series is based on some tapes made by legasov and a very large amount of the scenes are 100% invented. Also the legasov suicide was totally unrelated to chernobyl he was chronically suicidal and he states the motive

@Tnho6000 @soberdamar @ChadReal4183 @MiddleearthMixr As my comment said, I noticed that you stopped there. Where in Chernobyl was the lie? The Soviets so horribly mismanaged the entire affair, and were unable to cover it up, to the point that it eventually contributed significantly to the downfall of the entire Soviet Union.

So you still believe that Fukushima was caused by incompetence? I think in the circumstances they operated swiftly and competently to mitigate as much damage as possible and rebuild. I did not claim that Chernobyl was due to bad design, you have invented that (ironically what you accusing me of). Fukushima was caused by an earthquake that the reactors were not designed to withstand without damage, but designed to not cause a large scale meltdown that would irradiate an entire city for 50 years. The fact that Chernobyl was not designed to destroy a city is irrelevant. Incompetent managers and Soviet style incredulity at the possibility of error is what caused Chernobyl to go from a small hiccup and probably containable mishap, into an unmitigated disaster that directly helped to bring down the entire USSR.

@ssgtbarnesbot @ChadReal4183 @MiddleearthMixr crazy how this is how it started, just admit you hate the USSR no need to invent BS. Also ironically the TV show (written by legasov the designer btw) claims that it wasn't the designers fault but everyone else.

It was designed to withstand around 450 Gal, when 560 Gal was detected the emergency system shut the reactors down, which is quite a feat in itself. There have been precisely 5 earthquakes coming in at a 9.0 or higher since 1952, none between 1907 and 1952. So while not entirely unexpected it was an outlier.

@Tnho6000 @ChadReal4183 @MiddleearthMixr The reactor was built by highly trained specialised Japanese engineers. The Japanese are some of the world's finest engineers. The reactor was designed to withstand unthinkably destructive earthquakes. It took a 9.0M earthquake to cause damage.

@ChadReal4183 @MiddleearthMixr yeah just because you don't like the USSR doesn't mean that every single bad thing said about them is correct.

Even putting merit or success based arguments aside, isn’t Lewis happy that the first trillionaire is an African American?

Person 1 sees someone flourish and says… good for him. I’d like to succeed like that and see others do so too. His taxes will pay for a lot. Person 2 sees someone flourish and says… why does he have that and I haven’t? It’s bad. Take it from him. Which do you wish to be?

Musk as a trillionaire- anyone as a trillionaire- is a grotesque economic, moral and political problem. We cannot have individuals with that level of power, whatever they might have achieved.

@commontruth_ @TaraIsabel_7 All these people, so upset that someone has more. Most of them are posting on their very expensive mobile device from their first world country. They themselves have more than 50% of the world. If they so strongly believe in a "fair" world then they would simply give it all away.

In a society that is ethical and fair, no one should ever have the wealth that reaches a trillion dollars, and no one should live in abject poverty, when about 4 billion people collectively control just 2% of the world's wealth it raises serious questions.

Why? Should Tesla and SpaceX not exist? What about all the jobs they provide? What about the tax their workers pay? What about the rockets and cars they produce? Why shouldn't any of that exist? Why do you feel entitled to profit from the work of others? What's stopping you from doing what Musk did?

The UK government spyware demand means that the government decides exactly what should be censored on every mobile device. They say they will start with nude pictures (if you don’t identify yourself as an adult). But it could at any time be expanded to anything the government disapproves of. Today, 30 people are arrested every day in the United Kingdom for writing something online that the government classifies as "grossly offensive". It is obvious that they will use this tool to restrict free speech. Currently, there appears to be no requirement to report findings outside the device. However, with both legal and technological decision-making power taken away from individuals and transferred to the government, that is only a pen stroke away. This means that the government could also use this system for total mass surveillance. And they can do so in secret. The government recently, in secret, tried to pressure Apple (which is now agreeing to client-side scanning) to build backdoors into its end-to-end encrypted cloud service. They can do this under the Investigatory Powers Act 2016, also known as the "Snoopers' Charter" – a law that makes it illegal for tech companies to disclose secret demands from the government.
