So here are my thoughts on this. Kdrama consumers will say they want diverse writing and tired of the cliche romcoms but they will criticize solid writing like Park Haeyoung’s. Why does she have to stop writing these women that are broken and find mutual healing with their partners? What is wrong with Eunah deciding that she will be a strong mother that won’t let her child suffer abuse? Isn’t feminism all about the right and freedom for women to make these choices themselves.
And the infantilization? I think people are missing the symbolism of her actions. When Dongman told her about his struggles and wanting to quit, the only thing she could relate this to was her own abandonment as a child. Eunah has never known showing of love outside of her urge to be constantly maternal and give her lover what her mother could not give her. Look at how she dated her ex and gave him everything. Her expression of love comes from nurture. Is that ok? That’s debatable but we’re also ignoring the fact that she is also a woman with deep rooted mental health issues that is currently in therapy.
Telling Park Haeyoung to stick to one dimensional women is a disservice to women’s stories because in reality, we have women like this. Who is going to tell their story? Should we skip all of it because it’s too raw and “creepy”?

Knets are calling out Park Haeyoung again for her narrative in her dramas. In Episode 9 of We Are All Trying Here, there’s a scene where Byeon Eunah (the FL) gives Hwang Dongman (the ML) a hug by wrapping him up in her sweater. They have criticized this as infantilization of a capable grown man, most especially seeing he was crouched in a fetal position. Calling the scene, creepy and cringe. They also criticized Eunah dream of becoming a strong mother. Mind you, the context of her dream to be a strong mother comes from the fact that her mother abandoned her as a 9 year old, which traumatized her to the point of her having nosebleeds whenever she’s put in a similar situation. Making her vow that she will be a mother that will never let something like this happen again. In the earlier episodes, they criticized Park Haeyoung for writing female characters that their sole purpose is to be a salvation tool for broken male characters using My Liberation Notes, My Mister and now We Are All trying Here, as proof of her constantly writing women that heal broken men. They said she should quit writing at this point 😭
