Neonatology and the care of preterm babies is at-risk for a major crisis if it becomes impossible to obtain or use preterm formula products. Human milk is always our best option, especially mother's own milk, but older, larger and complex care infants need specialized products.

Are medical school admissions just a numbers game? Not for Travis Crook and Steve Abrams, leaders in #DellMed's admissions and student affairs. "We’re looking for evidence of leadership and innovation." See what else they want applicants to know ⬇️ bit.ly/3L7YIDg

Food Insecurity: A Crisis on College Campuses A scoping review highlights the prevalence of food insecurity (FI) among U.S. college students, with estimates ranging from 10% to 75%. Variability in rates stems from differing survey methods and reference periods. FI impacts access and stability of food, often leaving students vulnerable to hunger and very low food security. The findings call for standardized surveys and targeted interventions to address this critical issue. Psychometric testing is needed to refine tools and ensure accurate classification of FI among students. doi.org/10.1093/advanc… #foodinsecurity #collegehunger #universitystudents #foodsecurity #systematicreview

@DrTanyaAltmann @DrMichaelGoran Thank you Tanya. Don't forget to put in YOUR response to the RFI. Pediatric voices from the community are important, especially reflecting issues like marketing, mixed feedings and shortages

Thanks for this interesting look at what's going on with Stork Speed. As with many things, there are certainly concerns and risks, but the chance to substantially update formula guidance, with appropriate expert input as well as industry & government agencies, shouldn't be missed

Seed oils have been in the news, but the real issue is our infant formula rules are woefully out of date. Will MAHA actually do something about it? foodfix.co/why-the-trump-…

I don't think an RFI and response can fully cover all that needs to be done, a formal advisory process is needed, but this is an important beginning to a review process. I do think that DHA/ARA requirements being established and rethinking iron guidance are good early topics.

The FDA has released its RFI related to infant formula. I would encourage responses from both individuals and organizations as this process begins. . fda.gov/news-events/pr…

Overall, we hope this report will be the basis for updating the FDA approach. We appreciate the efforts of many in helping us to put this report together. Support for the FDA in maintaining a rigorous, but practical approach to evaluation of novel infant formulas is needed.

This is especially true in that the very long-standing 3 g/day weight difference as a key outcome between new formulas and control ones is not a strongly evidenced-based one and standards based on Z-scores as are used elsewhere should be considered.
