🇹🇷🇷🇺🇺🇸 Turkey is asking Russia for permission to get rid of the very weapon that got it kicked out of the F-35 program. Ankara wants to ship its Russian-made S-400 air defense systems off to a third country, hoping that finally clears the way to buy America's stealth fighter. Moscow is calling the request "extremely sensitive" and hasn't said yes. The whole thing is a little absurd. Turkey bought the S-400 in 2019, got booted from the F-35 program and slapped with sanctions, and has barely touched it since. Much of it is reportedly still sitting in shipping containers. Now the politics have flipped. At this week's NATO summit in Ankara, Trump said he'll drop the sanctions and is leaning toward greenlighting the jets, calling Erdogan loyal and a friend. The holdup is Congress and Israel. Bipartisan lawmakers want the sale blocked while Turkey keeps the S-400, and Netanyahu is lobbying hard against it to protect Israel's air edge. The leases Cyprus has given are progressing, TR media doesn't report it because it defies "Mavi Vatan" propaganda. We'll see about "stay in 6nm" when cable-laying starts.

Also: 1) Cyprus has already given leases for its EEZ way beyond 6nm or 12nm. Greece for the entirely of south of Crete (contested by Libya) too. 2) Enjoy your embargo

The fact Greece managed to protect 2/3rds of Cyprus despite not even having a functional chain of command back then (since the Junta was collapsing) is a testament to Greek's ability to play strong defense.
