Nope. Cancel culture is just a boycott of someone’s career, and boycotts require the boycotters to have been customers. If they were never your fans, then you’re not losing anything, and they’re not accomplishing anything. Nicki Minaj and Kanye West can’t be cancelled because their actual fans don’t care. Cancel culture only affects people whose entire fanbase is built on terminally online activists. They have to spend the rest of their career recording crying videos explaining why they liked an AI video or writing statements about why calling security on an 11 year old is them exercising their bodily autonomy or whatever buzzphrase will make their audience shut up for 5 minutes. They intentionally build their entire fanbase out of terminally online activists because those people live on the internet and hand out free engagement, and then act completely blindsided when that exact demographic inevitably turns on them over the silliest things. Their fans then have to cope and seethe about how their favorite artist, who panders to a sensitive crowd, is getting canceled over something unserious, and how other “canceled” artists have done worse but are still doing well, so the cancellation attempt must actually be because the singer is a woman, black, or gay, as if the people who streamed their music for 3 years didn’t realize they had a vagina until the exact second of the controversy lmao.
