Max Euwe (1901-1981) was born on this day 125 years ago. Fifth World Champion, he was a remarkable figure in various regards. I feel his life and career could be an inspiration to many. It is easier to become a great champion when you are a genius - like Lasker or Capablanca. But how to pull it with a combination of gift, dedication and preparation? Welcome to my FB to read an essay, dedicated to Euwe.

The funniest moment I have seen in chess was during the local tournament. The Boy (left) offered a draw to his Opponent : - I offer You draw. - Hmm, let's play! - I said, I offer You draw! - Ok, draw. It was the funniest (forced) draw I've ever seen. Kids! :-D #ChessChamps

For the record. Classical chess remains my very favourite form of chess. ...but for me it is not as interesting at elite level as when I was younger. End of

Incredible move alert!! Just when she looked dead in the water, Vaishali pulled off a miracle save against her countrywoman Divya Deshmukh. The Candidate tournaments in Cyprus have been dramatic and exciting so far!

I just completed my first chess tournament in 3 years. I underestimated how nervous competitive chess makes me. How do you manage your nerves OTB? #chesspunks

I played an FM in the last round of my norm tournament in Charlotte. I lost. Here I played Nc2+. This is bad after Kd2 Nxa1 Qf6 and I am forced to trade queens, because if Qxb2+ Ke3 Nc2+ Kf4 he escapes the checks and I'm getting mated. Instead I should have played Bg4.

“Fischer loves chess. But there is nothing new in this. I will merely mention that Fischer has no option other than to love chess. After all, he is unable to do anything else.” Mikhail Botvinnik, in the article “Miracles and Reality,” published in the chess magazine '64' in 1971, after Bobby Fischer’s 6–0 victories over Mark Taimanov and Bent Larsen. 📸: Philippe Halsman

Round 4. I won today. Not that I’m very proud of this win, as my opponent was an 8-year-old girl. But kids play tough these days 🙂 Here is the position from our game. Black to move and win. Score so far: 2.5/4. ♟️

I just played a GM in round 8 of the Saint Louis Masters. We got a draw. I was better, though. Below I played Bh5. I had the straightforward plan of Bf3, Qh3, and mate on g2. But white can defend against this by playing Qd6, and he will trade queens on e6 next.

Most beautiful game ever played by Lasker! White to play and mate in 8 moves Hint - White forces black to get king to g1 (Yes g1) on move 7.
