pitched a VC last night
he asked if we had any traction after just 2 weeks of running the company
yep
showed him a list of 400,000 names and emails in a spreadsheet
"holy shit, are these your users?"
i just smiled
i didn't actually say "yes"
but now he thinks I have 400k paying users for an app that's only two weeks old
when in reality those are just random strings of characters i generated in Excel
remember, it's not fraud if you don't actually say anything

friend got laid off from Meta last year
he was making $450k a year as an engineer
couldn't find a job
I told him he's so lucky - now he has freedom and can build his own company
a year later, he's living in a 1 bedroom apartment with 8 other 19-year old founders and making $500 a month
so cool to see people live their dreams
English

@stanleefounder making $450k means not entry level likely 26+, why is he living with 19 yr olds lol

met with a VC
told him my startup is at $15k MRR
he liked it but said it's too early for him
"come back when you have more traction"
I returned to his office the next day
just hit $250k MRR, I told him
he was shocked at how fast we moved
he invested $5 million immediately
the key to success?
knowing how to lie about your numbers

met an engineer who got laid off from Google
he was making $400k a year
then he couldn't find anything paying more than $120k
devastating
he almost had to give up his $8k/mo apartment
but then he had an idea
he started up an agentic AI startup
easily raised $10m based on his work experience
now he has $10m in the bank and can just pay himself $400k for the next 25 years before he runs out of money
raising money is a cheat code
English

@shahriarr_here he can always just start his own company and get it to $10m ARR
English

@stanleefounder lol you mean he saved literally 0 after getting $750k for years. nice ragebait
English

met a senior engineer who got laid off from Meta
used to make $750k a year
plus every perk imaginable
now he can't afford his $9k/mo condo payment
frantically trying to find a new
he's interviewing to be CTO of every startup in the bay area
all he can get is $80k salary, 0.1% equity, and an air mattress on the floor of the founder's living room
he's not sure if his wife and two kids will be okay living like that
welcome to the tech job market in 2026
English

@WurtDotApp he invested most of it into angel list syndicates
English

@stanleefounder How do you make 750k a year and not afford 9k rent lol
