@Abhishek_Rai Not sure if it is that straightforward. I have been given that explanation at good cafes with a decent espresso as well. I saw it as a sign of the barista having experienced espresso (because popular) ordering customers being shocked after receiving the cup in the past

In fact, that's the first red flag. Never order from a cafe, where barista is dissuading you from espresso. A cafe, with good espresso, would border on insisting you to drink espresso.

We should thank such baristas for for their honesty. Because: One; most owners or chain owners do not keep good coffee. Two, they don’t hire good baristas, as there are few good ones. Three, there is hardly any real training, which should be ongoing, not one time.
