🎯 Another relentless performance from Peter Wright saw him claim the 2021 @Betfred #WorldMatchplay title. Van den Bergh averaged in excess of 100 in defeat, but his accuracy on the doubles is what really let him down – he only hit 27.3% of his attempts at a double.

The second semi was a classic, with Wright putting in the kind of dominating performance that MVG has become known for over the years. An average of 101.3 coupled with a checkout rate of 47.6% would be enough to win most matches, but not when Wright is in this kind of form.

In the first semi final, Van den Bergh got off to a slow start and found himself 6-2 down to his Polish opponent. But he then gradually turned the screw with the power scoring that has been his trademark in this tournament so far, eventually running out the 17-9 victor.

Champion @JonnyClay9 was in the top 4 for all metrics apart from one – he ranked 8th for ‘checkout percentage’, but also ranked 2nd for most 100+ checkouts. Special mention has to go to @JoseDeSousa180, he hit a whopping 96 maximums, 24 more than Dimitri Van den Bergh in second.

James Wade and Dimitri Van den Bergh can maybe consider themselves a little unlucky to not make it to Finals Night, with both players being in the top 4 when it comes to 3-dart averages and checkout percentages.

Unsurprisingly for a draw, the stats are fairly even – battling back from 6-3 down, Van de Bergh edged the scoring stats with a higher average and hitting more 180s. Wade had the better checkout percentage, but Van den Bergh hit an impressive 4 ton-plus checkouts to Wade's 1.

The statistics somewhat belie Wright’s victory – Van den Bergh had the better 3-dart average (107 v 102.8) and checkout percentage (62.5% v 57.1%). But Wright’s performance on the 100-plus checkouts could be what made the difference – Wright hit two to Van den Bergh’s zero.

A match where the players average 104.48 & 101.24 would normally suggest a fairly even result, not an 8-1 defeat for the player with the superior advantage. But a look at the checkout percentages shows where Anderson fell down – he only managed 12.5% compared to Clayton’s 57.1%.
