President Donald Trump issued a new threat against Iran on Wednesday, saying the U.S. would hit "very hard" if the country made a move for nuclear material.
In a primetime address from the White House, Trump said the U.S. has obliterated Iran's nuclear sites, and that it "would take months to get near the nuclear dust."
"If we see them make a move, even a move for it, we’ll hit them with missiles very hard again," Trump said.
The president said the U.S. would hit Iran "extremely hard over the next two to three weeks." At other points of his address, he said the mission was “nearing completion,” and that discussions are ongoing.
"We are going to bring them back to the Stone Ages, where they belong," he added.
Polls have shown majorities of Americans oppose military action in Iran, and also oppose U.S. troops on the ground there. Gas prices have soared to over $4 a gallon, heightening Americans' economic concerns. Trump described the sticker shock as "temporary."
"The United States has never been better prepared economically to confront this threat. You all know that," he said earlier in his remarks.
