If the currently existing generative AI technology had existed when Einstein presented his relativity theory, then all the generative AI models would most likely have dismissed his ideas.

When generative AI models are asked about their capabilities and limitations their answers are frequently inaccurate.

A generative AI model is most likely to answer a hard question correctly if the question is purely technical and the answer matches the relevant mainstream expert consensus. If the correct answer is unconventional, then the AI model's answer will most likely be wrong.

If the currently existing generative AI technology had existed in 2002, then all the generative AI models would most likely have claimed that attempting to develop reusable orbital class rocket boosters like SpaceX's Falcon 9 boosters would fail.

When asking a generative AI model a hard question its answer will often be strongly influenced by how the question is formulated.

The experts claiming that Tesla's Terafab project will fail sound like the experts who claimed that landing and reusing orbital rocket boosters were impossible.

The idea of Grok finding the highest-quality content is good, but hard to implement because Grok is currently not able to accurately assess the quality of many of the best posts on 𝕏. This is especially the case when the content is novel and unique, because then Grok can't find examples of similar content, the existence of which Grok generally uses as an indicator of quality as a form of social validation, instead of relying on assessment of the content's inherent quality, something which Grok often is bad at.

Schoolchildren Are Converting to Islam 'Out of Fear' in German Schools Something is happening in German classrooms that the authorities have been slow to name. Christian children are converting to Islam, not out of conviction, but out of fear. More and more parents are turning to counselling centres, a state security officer told the German tabloid Bild, because their children want to convert simply to avoid being outsiders at school. The pressure is not subtle. In cities like Berlin and Frankfurt, Muslim pupils now make up more than 80 per cent of the student body in some schools, the product of eight years of mass immigration from Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. Many of these children come from strictly observant families, and they bring their expectations with them. Girls who dress in a westernised way or mix with boys are warned by male classmates to correct their behaviour. The security officer was direct: male Muslim students can appear threatening and sometimes violent in enforcing these norms. Parallel societies, he said, are emerging within the schools themselves. A study by the Criminal Research Institute of Lower Saxony puts numbers to the ideology behind the pressure. Of the Muslim students surveyed, 67.8 per cent believe the Koran takes precedence over German law. Nearly half support Islamic theocracy as the best form of government. More than a third say they can understand violence against those who insult the Prophet. One in five believes the perceived threat to Islam from the West justifies Muslims defending themselves violently. These are not the views of a fringe. They are the views of students sitting in German classrooms today. And the response of the non-Muslim children around them is entirely rational, which is what makes it so troubling. You conform, or you become a target. Some are choosing a third option: they convert. Germany is not sleepwalking into this. It walked in with its eyes open and called it tolerance. "In cities like Berlin and Frankfurt, Muslim pupils now make up more than 80 per cent of the student body in some schools, the product of eight years of mass immigration from Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan."

@benjitaylor @xai In case your responsibilities include the Grok UI, it needs better feedback options. Currently Google's Gemini AI has a better UI for feedback.

I'm based in France, but 43% of my audience is American. I know many of us are in the same situation. To reach a wider audience, all my posts are in English, the international language. Those who cause trouble may be punished, but with this change, which will significantly reduce our earnings, you're also penalizing a number of accounts that use the international language without any ill intent. X tells us that videos and new, high-quality content will be prioritized, but this change will, on the contrary, drastically reduce our earnings. Is there any way to reverse this decision, please?🥺 @XCreators @X @nikitabier @elonmusk

Starting Thursday, we'll be updating our revenue sharing incentives to better reward the content we want on X: We will be giving more weight to impressions from your home region—to encourage content that resonates with people in your country, in neighboring countries and people who speak your language. While we appreciate everyone's opinion on American politics, we hope this will disincentivize gaming the attention of US or Japanese accounts and instead, drive diverse conversations on the platform. We invite creators to start building an audience locally. X will be a much richer community when there's relevant posts for people in all parts of the world.

Software horror: litellm PyPI supply chain attack. Simple `pip install litellm` was enough to exfiltrate SSH keys, AWS/GCP/Azure creds, Kubernetes configs, git credentials, env vars (all your API keys), shell history, crypto wallets, SSL private keys, CI/CD secrets, database passwords. LiteLLM itself has 97 million downloads per month which is already terrible, but much worse, the contagion spreads to any project that depends on litellm. For example, if you did `pip install dspy` (which depended on litellm>=1.64.0), you'd also be pwnd. Same for any other large project that depended on litellm. Afaict the poisoned version was up for only less than ~1 hour. The attack had a bug which led to its discovery - Callum McMahon was using an MCP plugin inside Cursor that pulled in litellm as a transitive dependency. When litellm 1.82.8 installed, their machine ran out of RAM and crashed. So if the attacker didn't vibe code this attack it could have been undetected for many days or weeks. Supply chain attacks like this are basically the scariest thing imaginable in modern software. Every time you install any depedency you could be pulling in a poisoned package anywhere deep inside its entire depedency tree. This is especially risky with large projects that might have lots and lots of dependencies. The credentials that do get stolen in each attack can then be used to take over more accounts and compromise more packages. Classical software engineering would have you believe that dependencies are good (we're building pyramids from bricks), but imo this has to be re-evaluated, and it's why I've been so growingly averse to them, preferring to use LLMs to "yoink" functionality when it's simple enough and possible.
Daniel Hnyk@hnykda

LiteLLM HAS BEEN COMPROMISED, DO NOT UPDATE. We just discovered that LiteLLM pypi release 1.82.8. It has been compromised, it contains litellm_init.pth with base64 encoded instructions to send all the credentials it can find to remote server + self-replicate. link below
