Okay, so A1 Gaming League is a "ranked" league? Even though we are currently in the RO16, this league should not be ranked. The league operates at a level where repeated deviations from its own rulebook occur, constituting an abuse of competitive integrity and a concerningly unprofessional handling of both scheduling and integrity-related matters. During this season, A1 decided, shortly before the round began, that all teams were required to play WITHOUT anti-cheat, despite their own rulebook explicitly stating that all matches MUST be played using Akros. This left teams with no realistic option to withdraw without severe consequences, as doing so would result in the loss of a significant amount of points within Valve’s Ranked system, effectively forcing teams to compete without any form of anti-cheat protection. At the same time, the tournament did not require teams or players to use cameras or any comparable monitoring measures that could compensate for the removal of anti-cheat protections. The organizers stated that, according to the rulebook (which apparently was interpreted as applicable only in this specific context), such requirements applied exclusively to playoffs and not to the main Swiss stage. As a result, shortly before matches began, all meaningful safeguards related to competitive integrity and anti-cheat enforcement were removed. After A1 became aware that we intended to raise these integrity concerns publicly, they chose to remove §4.5.5 from the rulebook mid-tournament. The paragraph previously stated: “All players are required to use Akros Anti-Cheat software to join the server (akros.ac). All participants must ensure Akros is properly installed and works on their computers the day before their first match in the series.” We possess timestamps documenting this change, as well as screenshots taken directly from the rulebook quoting the paragraph above. Following our critical inquiries, the rulebook was “live edited,” and the paragraph was entirely removed. Changing a rulebook during an ongoing tournament because the organizer itself fails to comply with its own rules raises serious concerns. Allowing a tournament operating under such circumstances to retain ranked status appears fundamentally inconsistent with the principles of transparency and competitive integrity. In short, forcing teams to compete under conditions that deviate from the published rules, while retroactively claiming those rules are outdated and subsequently modifying them midway through the tournament, undermines both transparency and trust in the competitive environment. Additional concerns further highlight inconsistencies in rule enforcement during the same tournament stage. In its first played match, BRUTE fielded the following lineup: The eLiVe Siko W4rden Realzen KAD1M In a later match against AaB Esport (us), BRUTE instead used the players mASKED and hfah. According to §2.5.5, Stand-in rules, each team is allowed to register one (1) stand-in. A stand-in must not originate from another team participating in the tournament or have previously stood in for another team during the same event, and administrators must be informed at least 15 minutes prior to match start. Following questions raised regarding this situation, the tournament organizer explained that hfah, a young talented player who is an active player and who were announced as a player on trial as a player with BRUTE together with the player mASKED, had been registered mid-tournament as a coach and was therefore eligible to play. We wish to emphasize that this statement is not directed against BRUTE as a team or its players. Rather, the concern lies in how the rules appear to have been interpreted contrary to their original intent in order to reach a desired administrative outcome. The regulations governing stand-ins exist to limit roster flexibility during an ongoing stage; reclassifying an active player as a coach mid-tournament, thereby enabling participation as an additional stand-in, effectively bypasses that limitation. This interpretation gives the appearance that the rule framework was adapted to fit a specific situation rather than enforced consistently. It remains unclear whether such an interpretation was encouraged or facilitated by tournament administrators, particularly as requests for clarification and documentation were not substantiated. We formally requested timestamps and documentation verifying when hfah was registered as a coach, as well as clarification regarding who author ized this registration. The tournament organizer declined to provide this information, making independent verification of compliance with the rulebook impossible. We have informed both @valvesoftware and @HLTVorg of these concerns (the latter may independently decide whether to cover the tournament), but no response has been received at the time of writing.

I totally commend @shokeCS for putting this out there and showing what it's like to try and run a CS2 team on the fringe of Tier 1. In my circles, many conversations are asking, "How is this possible?" However, given my experience with the way CYBERSHOKE is spending, this actually looks very reasonable and like a pretty well-run operation. YET he still has a deficit of $322k after 2.5 years. Crazy, right? This just shows the importance of what a skin sponsor could do (Sadly, that revenue stream has been largely removed). It also highlights the importance of well negotiated prizepool take for the orgs. Otherwise, your best bet is to sell players or make a Major. Now, for a team like CYBERSHOKE, both options are not impossible and would definitely generate some inflows. I am not going to pick out what I would do differently to get this closer to being in the black, but I just wanted to explain that even those salaries listed are very competitive. It should come as no shock when what I believe is a well-run op is still quite negative after 2.5 years. I always hope there is more done to support the lower tiers because, without the little guys, the whole thing collapses. Respect Erik. 🙏
