Morning all. This account is now hibernating, indefinitely. You can find me in other places, should you wish. I hope to return, should better days come. Meanwhile, thank you for everything. All the best!

The Royal Alfred, #StHelens. Once a classic hotel pub facing the station, it welcomed travelling entertainers playing at the nearby theatre and other venues. Works to convert the upstairs into flats is ongoing, the pub's future "uncertain". #LostPubs #PubFrontFriday #Lancashire

I tell my kids this was my favourite type of pen at high school, turns out it's their favourite as well. Always brings back memories when I see them in the supermarket. Should buy one just for the hell of it.

The Horseshoe Inn, facing the village green at #Levisham, on the #NorthYorkshire Moors. It's a quality pub & makes a great halfway house for a loop walk across the moors & back through the Hole of Horcum. Sometimes cut off during snow. #PubFrontFriday 📷 My own.

@sthelenstownfc 'Stuck in the Middle of Cawthorn Camps With You' probably wouldn't have sold as many copies. Shucks.

The C13 font @pborocathedral, made from Alwalton marble. Thrown out at some point (perhaps during the Civil War) & rediscovered in a nearby garden in the 1820s. The Cathedral announced this week it is in financial crisis, needing £300k urgently. #FontsOnFriday #Peterborough

A slice of simple Georgian elegance in the heart of #Sheffield: main entrance to 14 Paradise Square, one of a terrace of five houses (now offices) from circa 1736. Grade II* listed. Pic my own, from a gloomy day in 2013. #Yorkshire #AdoorableThursday

@GrimArtGroup A long-gone railway bridge here in St. Helens used to carry the same advertising. My Dad still calls the spot 'Cephos Bridge', even though it's at least 50 years since demolition.

Thank you to @jpwarchaeology for a fascinating talk in #StHelens last eve, & being an all-round trouper. Thanks also to everyone who joined us, & especially @bob_bellis for his help. A big cheers to Katie, Mark & Aston @TheWorldofGlass, too, for all that they did. #Archaeology

@bob_bellis Yep, thankfully. If it rains as the snow melts in the next few days there could be further problems, though. It's also apparent that the repeated floods are eroding some of the embankments and related infrastructure quite badly. Some of the historic retaining walls are at risk.
