@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 R3) We can become advocates for our students by learning where they come from. It’s important to learn about our students and their needs. Also letting them know they can come to us with anything and that we will be there to listen.

@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 Every day, I start my class with the following mantra: "I am Smart, I am Kind, I am Important." starting the day with this kind of affirmation reinforces for my students the idea that they are valued when in my care and classroom.

@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 R2)I will create a safe AND brave space for all students by making sure my students feel welcomed in my classroom. I want them to trust me with anything they have going on. It’s important for students to feel as if my class is their second home.

@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 We need to work together as a whole: teachers, administration, staff and parents to set a common goal for the school. We can work together to provide an environment with a culture that makes everyone feel respected, valued and accepted. Ex. holding school events that include all.

@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 R1) One way to work together is starting off by having an open mind to new things. We can build a community with communication. It’s important for everyone to come together as a whole to communicate and collaborate to help our students.

@Thesavior45 @WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 @joboaler Hello Adam! I agree with you. I think students get anxiety because they have the pressure of memorizing math facts and being timed on completing them. Also, timed tests can lead to students having anxiety. They may not have enough time to finish the test.

@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 @joboaler Some really great benefits of participating in Number Talks is students get the chance to visually see all the different strategies there are in completing a single math question. Students also get the chance to see why certain strategies are more efficient than others.

@WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 Memorization of math facts is "unnecessary and damaging" because students are only memorizing numbers and not building a connection to the problem. Students are not making number sense of the problem or are given the opportunity to think of strategies.

@WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 Number talks is an effective way for students to show how they solved a problem. It allows the class to see that there are many ways to get to the same answer. It’s gives student the control of showing their point of view in solving a problem.

@WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 Some reasons why students may have math anxiety is because they are being pressured in memorizing math facts and also being timed on their math test. Being tested on how fast they know their math facts is not benefiting them; It just puts stress on the student.

@WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 Memorization of math facts is unnecessary and damaging because students are not developing understandings or making connections because they are relying on distant memory. They feel pressured in memorizing math facts that they don’t develop number sense which can affect them.

@tom_karnes My favorite memory I had in school day was going on trips I would love to go and learn new things, it helped remember thing welearned in class. This trips never involved technology, however,I can guarantee that with the technology it can guarantee change. @Ststansberry #edte4200
