@JackieM_at_home Someone screwed a metal bracket on an oak tree at the pool to hang a life ring from. Sap comes out of the screw holes & it always has wasps & hornets on it

@stephenhillbill Thanks Stephen🙂👍. I think it IS a median wasp😁 not seen one before. Quite large. I think they are feeding on fermenting sap along with some butterflies! Possibly caused by wetwood/slimeflux?? There definitely appears to be damp mushy wood 😬

@stephenhillbill as my 'go to' bug man 😁 I hope you can help. These wasps are chewing the base of a 3 stem silver birch turning the wood to mush, 1 stem is now leaning. Smells strongly of vinegary rotting apples too. Any idea what wasps these are and what's affecting the tree?
