So much Influenza A out there (a member of the airborne virus club), sending sick kids of all ages to emergency rooms and inpatient wards, and very sick children to our pediatric ICUs here and elsewhere. Please:*everyone* 6mo and older should get a flu shot. Mask up! @SickKidsCCM

Here is our response to the Federal Government's decision to appeal the compensation order to the Federal Court of Appeal. We will continue to work hard to end Canada's discrimination against First Nations children, youth and families. Visit fnwitness.ca for more info.

I’m fortunate to be spending the weekend with a very experienced human rights lawyer who outlined how vaccine requirements in schools and other institutions do not infringe on human rights but actually enable those who are vulnerable to participate fully/be included.

Such an important thread about something that I don’t feel is talked about enough amongst healthcare workers. Thank you to the most lovely friend and co-resident for sharing 💕

With the horrific news out of Saskatchewan, our collective call, again, is for concrete transformative action. @JustinTrudeau, if you care enough to make things right, stop your selfish jockeying for an election—which no one really wants—and do what you promised in 2018. #215+💔

“Honouring the children means acting...and we can do what is needed. The question is: Will our leaders lead? Will our leaders honour the children?” JWR Opinion: Kamloops residential school’s...painful reminder of why we need leadership.⁩ #215 #TRC theglobeandmail.com/opinion/articl…

The news of the Muslim family killed in London Ontario today is gutting. There is a mental health support line for Muslim youth @NaseehaHelpline. You can connect with confidential support 7 days a week from 12PM – 12AM EST. 1-866-NASEEHA (627-3342). naseeha.org/contact-us/

I wrote about the children. Let us not assume that this is a problem of our past. It remains a crisis in the present. The same root problem of the denial of Indigenous rights perpetuates ongoing discrimination that affects Indigenous children of today. healthsci.queensu.ca/stories/blog/m…

When the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was investigating, survivors I met through the Residential School Survivors Society would often say that the quoted numbers of deaths were much lower than their lived experience. We have a long way to go in understanding the truth.

Israeli airstrikes wiped out Gaza's main COVID-19 testing center. Airstrikes have also hit at least 6 other hospitals and NGO trauma clinics — and others are running out of medicine due to the blockade. At least 212 Palestinians have been killed including 61 children.

“The story means everything.” Thank you Dr. Shelly Dev for inspiring @uoftmedicine class of 2021 on our last day of med school. She spoke about taking the time to look back, not just look forward. To find meaning in the journey. To think about our patients stories & also our own.

Even if you do not live in a “hot spot” or require paid sick leave, we all will benefit from vaccine distribution to areas where the need is highest and from health policies to support essential workers. It’s not only a morally just approach. It’s also a pragmatic one.

#COVID has taken my patient. Let her story become a force for positive change. Protecting essential workers must be the immediate term priority. Mobilize and Advocate. Let your MPP know that protecting those most at risk of getting #COVID is the best way to protect us all.
Michael Warner@drmwarner

It took: 5 MDs 4 ICU RNs 4 RTs 1 perfusionist & 3 critical care paramedics 3 hrs To save my ~40 yr old #COVID patient with #ECMO It would have cost @ongov $114 (8h x min wage) to allow her husband to take a day off work from his factory in known outbreak. We have lost our way.

I'll never understand how we were able to fast track approval for 3 vaccines to address #COVID19 in less than a year but still haven't been able to get clean drinking water to First Nations communities who have been suffering for decades.

An example of structural racism is when an institution’s anti-racism policy has to be vetted, adapted and approved by the very processes that perpetuate structural racism in the first place.

In a democratic society, we can't tolerate public health officials like @mustafahirji being subjected to racist attacks and death threats. This has to be investigated by police and condemned broadly and loudly by elected officials. #COVID #onpoli
