20% is determined by a knowledge of and thoughtfulness about ALL or a wide variety of psychoanalytic concepts about technique and psych mechanisms, eg an interest in unconscious content in general, that could be viewed through a variety of lenses, eg Freud, Klein, etc. 3/

IMO, what a good psychoanalytic therapist says, how they respond, is 75% determined by a strong commitment to the basic principles that SHOULD undergird ALL THERAPY, eg:
-a strong and thoughtful commitment to neutrality,
-curious and warm empathy, -interpersonal tact 1/

There are three main responses to this kind of thing: 1) doubt and disbelief. 2) saying, “well, that didn’t happen when [I went through this, my loved one went through this, I worked inpatient].” 3) actually taking this issue and concern very seriously.
