Saudi Arabia made a defence pact with Pakistan. When Iran carried out strikes on Saudi Arabia, Pakistan categorically told Iran to stop and later sent troops and fighter jets to Saudi Arabia.
UAE made a defence pact with India. Today, Iran carried out strikes again affecting the UAE, not a single statement by India.

The Ganges Water Treaty is expiring in December 2026. Under normal circumstances, the Treaty would be reviewed before its expiry. However, Bangladesh (BD) government is approaching the issue in an absolutely wrong way.
On one side, it is costing up with Pakistan, despite the history and geography, and is inviting China to undertake development of Teesta River Project and developing Lalmonirhat airfield close to sensitive Siliguri Corridor, besides discussing naval access with the USA. This approach does not impress India and is like displaying an hostile attitude.
On the other hand, it is literally ‘demanding’ that India renew the Treaty in perpetuity as per ‘needs and expectations’ of the people of BD, if India wants to have good relations with BD.
There is no sense of propriety or balance in this approach. It is as if India owes it to BD to provide them its waters irrespective of the needs of its own people. And it presupposes that India has no business worrying about BD acting against India’s interests by inviting India’s adversaries.
All this does not augur well for bilateral relations and BD may end up rueing its immaturity very soon.

@athreya49 Except US, UK and India none of the other global top 10 economies run CAD. The next country that runs a large CAD is Turkey. Others mostly run a surplus or a balanced CAD.

No strong views on the specific recos but we may have to put to rest the hypothesis that 2% (of GDP) CAD is permissible. That was the case when economy was $2 trillion. At $4 trillion permissible CAD may be just 1% of GDP? Other than US (UK?) do large economies run large CAD?

Fast growth, low CAD, low inflation - yet a minor run on INR. India's new challenges are out-of-syllabus, soln need to be out-of-book. Fix rates differentials, ⬆️corp tax rates, ⬇️cap gains taxes, facilitate price transmission between ccy and equity mkts. My piece in @livemint

China just released its first dedicated policy framework for AI agents.
Three agencies (CAC, NDRC, MIIT) jointly issued "Implementation Opinions on Standardized Application and Innovative Development of Intelligent Agents."
Key points:
- Defines AI agents as autonomous systems with perception, memory, decision-making, interaction, and execution capabilities.
- Lays out 19 specific application scenarios across scientific research, industrial development, consumer spending, public welfare, and governance.
- Establishes a "safety first, innovation second" principle. Development must be controllable and orderly.
This is a signal that Beijing sees AI agents as the next major frontier after foundation models.
