"The Count of Monte Cristo" (2026). There is a new, 8-part miniseries of this classic now on PBS Streaming. Have not started it yet, but it stars Sam Claflin and Jeremy Irons (as Abbé Faria). I have high hopes. This great novel needs an extended treatment.

Slow-cooked with onion, milk, and warm baking spices (cloves, cinnamon, allspice), it was breakfast on toast and a way to preserve meat before refrigeration. When French-Canadians headed south to the New England textile mills in the late 1800s–early 1900s (like Fall River), they brought the recipe with them. The Quebec “creh-ton” turned into our beloved New England Franco-American “corton” (or “gorton” depending on whose mémé you asked). Here in the States it picked up the ultimate American Thanksgiving twist: swapping some sweet spices for Bell’s poultry seasoning and turkey broth because it tasted like the holiday itself. Baking it with breadcrumbs until the top turns golden made it the sliceable, addictive stuffing we fight over every year.
