Time for sanity to prevail- enough of this flag hysteria 1.For the past few days we have been watching with increasing horror and disgust, the uproar over the upside down flag at SJKC Chung Hua, Port Dickson. 2.Once again politicians in this country have reacted hysterically over a flag incident. 3.No attention has been paid to the fact that it was an unintentional mistake by a school employee. It was convenient for the politicians riding upon the issue to ignore this. 4.At this rate no one will want to display or fly the Jalur Gemilang anymore, because the slightest mistake will subject them to a national uproar and police action. 5.The truth of the matter is that the politicians are trying to outdo each other in being seen to be the most patriotic, at the cost of many innocent victims like SJKC Chung Hua’s Board, PTA etc. 6.How demoralising and devastating for the school staff, parents and the children themselves to be subjected to this barrage of attacks. Do they realise they are scaring ordinary people? 7.This is not a case where someone had deliberately defaced or insulted the national flag. It doesn’t deserve this kind of extreme reaction, which is becoming the norm in this country. 8.It is particularly shocking that the education minister Fadhlina herself threatened “stern action” upon the school. As education minister she should have defended the school from all the opportunistic politicians jumping on the ‘flag’ bandwagon. 9.My heart goes out to the board and staff of the school who would no doubt be under great stress & pressure because of these attacks and the action now threatened against them. 10.It’s time for sanity to prevail. It was an obvious mistake. No one is going to be foolish enough to do it deliberately, especially in the fervid atmosphere of politics in this country. 11.So, there’s no need for a departmental inquiry or police probe. Just drop it. And let the school and its students carry on the important work of education in peace. Look for political mileage elsewhere. Leave our schools alone. 12.And all those govt leaders & govt MPs & ‘ reformist’ politicians who have been watching this, but not speaking up on behalf of the poor school - you should be ashamed of yourselves. You know who you are.
