As others have said it’s bc the atmosphere is spinning with the earth. I also feel ppl hear the earth is spinning at 1000mph and feel like that’s spectacularly fast- earth is straight cooking in rotation…but earth is almost 25000 miles in circumference. 1000mph means it makes 1 rotation per day. 1/25th- 4%- of a rotation in an hour.

Why don't planes just stay still and let the destination come to them because the earth is spinning?

@NoahKingJr I am a physics teacher. The air is spinning with the Earth. It took my plane the same time to fly from Melbourne to Perth as it took to come back. According to your theory you would go way faster Melbourne to Perth.

@Kekius_Sage C is the exchange rate between time and space in space-time. Light does not move in time, therefore it must move through space at the rate of C…

@Kekius_Sage Try to imagine nothing & the best we can come up with is an 'empty something'. If we can't even imagine it, there might be a problem somewhere. So why do we constantly fixate on the possibility & wonderment of an unimaginable nothingness?

I know it’s physics, I’m not lost 😭 I understand gravity. I’m just saying it’s both terrifying and amazing that we’re spinning in space like this and calling it normal.

So, we’re living on a ball that is made up of about 70% water on its surface, hanging in the middle of nothing, yet it keeps rotating by itself and the water doesn’t spill, and we don’t fall off?????

@dr_doreeeeenn Wait until you hear about gravity. It’s this wild concept where mass pulls things toward the centre, so 'down' is always towards the Earth, not into the 'void'. It’s standard primary school science, really.

@akashmuni27 @dr_doreeeeenn 🤌🏾 Can it ever slow down ? Slip away from its orbit ? Satellites often need correction of course and acceleration to maintain them in orbit. How does the globe stay on course ?

@dr_doreeeeenn Gravity. It’s not holding you down, it’s pulling everything toward the center equally, including the ocean. The rotation? Left over momentum from when Earth formed 4.5 billion years ago. It just never stopped.
