I am beyond thrilled, and astounded, and filled with hope—particularly in these times, with so many wonderful publications disappearing—that the work of my two favorite magazines, @bioGraphic and @hakaimagazine, will not only endure, but grow! biographic.com/supportus/

We've already started on plans for the new year, because there's not a second to lose, but we need your help—to spread the word & to donate if you can (no amount is too small). Thank you for your support all these years & for coming along with us on this exciting new chapter!

You may have heard the exciting news... We are pleased to announce a partnership with the team from @hakaimagazine, an award-winning publication based in Victoria, British Columbia, that covers coastal and ocean stories from around the world.

In July, we told you that Hakai Magazine will close at the end of December. Since sharing that devastating news, we’ve worked very hard to find a way to keep publishing the coastal journalism you love. We’re happy to finally announce that our team has a new home!

Consider donating to Hakai and bioGraphic to support independent, non-profit environmental journalism. The work they do is more important than ever right now.

@bioGraphic @calacademy But we need your help: In order to hit the ground running, we need to raise another $150,000. If you can afford it, please click the link below to donate. No amount is too small! biographic.com/hakai-magazine…

Someday I will cover a topic that's not animals being slaughtered by infrastructure—but for now, I'm gratified to report that my 2023 @bioGraphic story on bird/window strikes has been selected for the next edition of Best American Science & Nature Writing. biographic.com/city-of-glass/

Chicago — bright, glassy, located smack in the middle of a migratory flyway — may be the most dangerous American city for birds. For @bioGraphic, I wrote about the volunteers, biologists, and architects who are trying to make it safer. #longreads biographic.com/city-of-glass/

This is the first story in years that made me cry during reporting. (@steventbedard allegedly cried while reading it, too—sorry, Steven.) Nothing but awe and admiration for the dedicated volunteers who arise every day to confront this unending crisis. twitter.com/ben_a_goldfarb…

There's something about holding a dead warbler or chipping sparrow that surfaces the horrible knowledge we all suppress in order to function — that everything good and beautiful in this world is being run over or cut down or shot or trapped or poisoned or killed by glass. Whew.

This morning hundreds of terrifying videos like this are posted across social media. In sum, they depict a crisis in #Canada that involves fast-moving, uncontrolled fires all over the country -- but especially in the nation's #Arctic and sub-Arctic regions. #ClimateEmergency 🇨🇦

Terrifying images of the fire from Okanagan lake. The whitecaps on the water indicate just how much the wind is fanning the flames. #BCWildfires
