@ManuclearBomb I've spent the last decade having forgotten that "quiet part loud" is from the Simpsons

Been thinking about Simpsons phrases that have entered the popular lexicon. Things like "land of contrasts" and "saying the quiet part loud," what else is there (not thinking of neologisms/solecisms like "cromulent" or "embiggen")

@c0mmunicants I can't remember not being interested in film, so my best guess is either the first movie I ever saw, (I think a Pinocchio rerelease?) or my first trip to Hollywood as a child.

@JudiciaryGOP Literally the first thing any older NYer brings up about how the city has changed is how sanitized and Disney-fied Times Square has become. There's a lot to complain about the direction this city has taken, but crime isn't it. We have 20x too many cops and the rent is too high.

Back in the good old days: -You could fly to NYC affordably -Go to Times Square and not get robbed -Head to your hotel, that’s not overrun with illegal aliens -Dine at the Cheesecake Factory without spending your whole paycheck NO LONGER POSSIBLE IN JOE BIDEN’S AMERICA.

@disobedientgay Yeah Luca Guadagnino makes a lot of interesting choices deserving of praise, but also plenty that are pretty baffling. Still think about that shot in A Bigger Splash that pulls out to a wide from a CU of Ralph Fiennes's open mouth.

@arvofart Not an actual bid, but I just rewatched Up In the Air for the first time since theaters, and for a movie I remembered as a lot of good vibes, I forgot (probably bc I was 20 then) how bleak the whole side about layoffs was. So if there's a movie all about mass layoffs, that one.

What’s the bleakest movie you’ve ever seen? Not the scariest, most violent, or most disturbing, but the most overwhelmingly hopeless movie

@silentmoviegifs Could have sworn it was this very account that once shared a *pre-film* animation with this gag and claimed that was the origin of it...

A lot of "cartoon gags" actually have their origin in silent comedy, like this bit from Danger Ahead (1926)

@kelly_knox Movie was a mess but the marketing team did a hell of a job convincing us it would be great. Between this poster and that very first trailer, there was no reason to expect anything less.

I can't think of a more perfect illustration of how broken American democracy is, than the fact that for the first time ever it's basically 100% certain who both parties' nominees are before the first primary, even though they're two of the most unpopular candidates in history.

@Eldon_Katz It really feels like this would be the year that a few really bold third party candidates would shoot their shot, but all I've heard is exactly one person mention RFK Jr.

The location where Society of the Snow takes place is fascinating for its beauty and also for the terror that triggers in the audience. It is one of the highlights of the film. Since it’s a place where it’s impossible to shoot with a conventional crew, the visualization of the iconic Valle de las Lágrimas has been created with the indispensable support of the visual effects team. Without them —as you can see on the video below— it would have been impossible to achieve the level of authenticity and realism required for the movie. #SocietyOfTheSnow #LaSociedadDeLaNieve #VFX

I tracked down some old plates that were once made in an abandoned glass factory we explored. This is on our kitchen wall now. It's purportedly a dog and it's in our house while we sleep.
