How old are you, like 9? 😂 You just recounted one season of a franchise that was cursed for multiple generations of our families before 2016 happened And everything since has indicated a new cub Ice Age is dawning for another 100 years But yeah, talk about 2025’s near miss and tell me what I don’t know about baseball 🤪🤡

@Yourmom32522 @JonHeyman @BNightengale So Cub? Won 5 playoff games last season. 1 win away from NLDS which means just outside of top 4 in MLB. Current losing streak sucks big time but also had two 10 game winning streaks in first 55 games. And if you don’t know who Aaron Bummer is, you aren’t much of a baseball fan

@Michael_Cerami When the inevitable decline due to age and or injuries hits the three blocked positions this year or in the future, who has proven they can play there besides Shaw with his 4 yrs of control? For 60-70 games of an Impact starting pitcher & playoffs vs loaded NL? I’ll take a pass.

@flushingitgolf Recall pre round 1 when the Rory strategy was to “bash the driver” and essentially deal with the consequences. He had a horrible first 18, doesn’t like the course and doesn’t care who he pisses off sharing his views. Been kind of a d-bag since he got there this week.

After an opening 74 at the PGA Championship that he described as “shit”, Rory McIlroy bounced back with a bogey free 67 that he says was “not as shit” to comfortably make the cut. Despite unanimous praise from fans about the Aronimink set up, Rory is not as impressed: “The only thing I would say is, I think a bunched leaderboard like this, I think it's a sign of not a great setup, I think when it's as bunched as it is, because it hasn't really enabled anyone to separate themselves. It's like, you know, it's easy to make a ton of pars, hard to make birdies, and not that it's hard to make bogey, but it feels like bogey's the worst score you're going to shoot on any one hole. “There's not a lot of hazards. There's not, you know -- yeah, I think the setup is fine, like the golf course is good, the pins were tough, and the wind was what it was as well. But I just think, yeah, I've always felt like really good setups, it starts to spread the field a bit, and not great setups sort of bring everyone together. I feel like that's what's happened the last two days.” Rory is 5 shots back of the lead in T30th position heading into the weekend and says he still feels like he is in with a chance: “At five back I do feel like I'm right in the tournament, and that's really what I wanted to do today was to just get myself back in it, and I feel like I've done that.” Rory has a Saturday pairing with Brooks Koepka at 11am EST. He will need 2 low ones over the next 2 days if he is to claim his third PGA Championship and be halfway towards completing the calendar year Grand Slam. @McIlroyRory @PGAChampionship

@EdwardDeano It’s important to view the team through a critical lens, even when the record is good. My comment had nothing to do with injured pitchers. Study the RISP numbers and it’s not all sunshine and rainbows.

Cubs shut out for consecutive games. Maybe it’ll turn around in ATL, but issues with RISP, a problem for years, are still present with this team, despite the pretty record. Too many auto-outs in those situations.

@ClayTravis Mayor Pete has a beard now so he looks tough. He also drove his bike to work once so he could appear to be one of the guys. Unfortunately, he has no idea how to run a business or anything related to transportation, success or the free market. He is complete and utter clown 🤡

Here’s Mayor Pete announcing the Biden administration’s decision to fight the Jet Blue and Spirit merger so they could protect consumers and ensure low fares. Now the airline doesn’t exist and passengers are stranded across the country.

@cody__cubs Ok. Shaw will make less than $1m each of the next two years. They have a lot of guys on long term deals now. Guys get hurt. He plays all three infield positions. This team has lacked depth for years. You are trying to win now. To me, trading him makes virtually no sense.

@stevevanisko It’s not an obsession. I didn’t say to trade him. I’m just curious to what they wanna do because their entire infield is locked up the rest of the decade.

I guess my biggest question after this Hoerner extension news now is how the Cubs feel about Matt Shaw. Suzuki and Happ are free agents after the year so Shaw could theoretically move to one of those spots. Or they could trade him before the deadline for what you hope is a big piece of Shaw performs in the first half. I expect he’ll be a popular name in July.

@ballskwok Busch is under control until 2029 and he will be 32 that year. Love the guy but not sure The Cubs top prospects are all outfielders. I predict neither Happ nor Suzuki will be extended. And fwiw, both have already been paid handsomely by the Cubs under their current agreement.

@JonHeyman @mullyhaugh PCA is making MLB minimum for year 1 of the 5 years of control (2026), so net result for Cubs starting this year roughly 7 years/$116m. Could be reason for no club option?

@jacobzanolla Jed was on MLB Network today addressed the need for quality depth. Compared Shaw’s 2026 role to KB and Javy early in their careers- specifically after Schwarber injury. Also said he can play all IF spots plus corner outfield. With 5 years of control, why trade him?

At Cubs Convention this weekend, Matt Shaw’s positional versatility was a major talking point. That versatility makes him an intriguing trade target for other teams. Read now ⬇️ cubsinsider.com/2026/01/18/mat…

@HotStoveCubbies Who plays SS if Swanson gets hurt and Nico is traded? I like Shaw overall but that would not be a good fit for a team currently projected to win 90+ games in 2026

@MLBBruceLevine They can wait till Trade Deadline or even after playoffs to do this... No rush & it gives Hoyer time to see Shaws development. How big or small of a step he takes will determine this decision. Plus Nico probably wont top his 2025 career year in 2026 so price could come down

well, at least we’ll have a new narrative to spin if it were to actually happen. Gonna take a lot for Jed Hoyer to trade six years of control for a player he and his front office liked at the draft. Course they did trade Cam Smith for one year of Kyle Tucker so anything is possible.

@ragazzoreport Sources say Cubs have, in turn, requested Medicals on Gerrit Cole and expect Yankees to eat over 65% of the remaining financial commitment on his current contract. Also want 1 of Yanks top 3 prospects for Hoerner
