Before leaving Cuba later today, @jeremycorbyn and I delivered medical aid to Havana’s cancer hospital. The director and health workers shared this message of thanks. This aid comes from the Cuba Vive appeal, which has already raised over £280,000! Support the appeal below.

George Galloway nails it: This isn’t about nukes. Iran is targeted because it’s the only state that actually took action to defend Palestine. And because a sovereign Iran is the linchpin of a multipolar world where the US no longer dictates the rules.

With my friend @jeremycorbyn, I've just delivered key medical aid to Cuba. This is part of the Nuestra America Convoy that’s bringing in huge amounts of aid as Trump tightens the cruel and illegal blockade of Cuba. Donate and learn about the #NuestraAmericaConvoy below.

@UniteHousing In 2025 Labour built 2,260 council houses. Councils sold 8,656 council houses. Notice anything? Who comes up with policies like this? Anyone know? Is it policy to grow homelessness? Historic England say using adaptive reuse 670,000 homes could be built houselottery.org

@CHinchliffMP @LabourList Chris, your op-ed nails it. The 1993 rule haunts our housing system: blocks Lottery funds from renovating empty historic buildings for council-owned social housing. Change the rule. Save heritage. Build public homes. HouseLottery.org

Private developers drove the housing crisis. Now they want deregulation: lower quality but still unaffordable, freezing homes in flood-risk areas. Labour will carry the blame if we don’t reject the race to the bottom. My op-ed for @LabourList 👇🏻

@CHinchliffMP Speaking of "binning" this 1993 rule needs to be thrown out! Historic England say 370,000 homes could be built using empty buildings. This rule prevents funding for any social housing. Let's bin it. HouseLottery.org

The Government's scrapped the worst parts of the Fingleton Review. When the nature-loving majority is united, we can win. There’s still a fight ahead. I won't settle for beating single bad policies: We've got to bin the whole idea that protecting nature is even up for debate.

Green spaces vanish and unaffordable housing goes up when developers call the shots. A Charter for Community Rights would give local people real power over place-making and the ability to challenge decisions. Power to the people—not the deepest pockets.

@Simoncitizen Thanks Simon - precision matters. Official MHCLG data: councils delivered 10,480 "affordable" homes in 2024-25 (16% of total). Why can't councils build MORE directly using Lottery funds? The 1993 rule blocks that. That's the campaign. (I'll correct Original post wording)

@TPleicester "670k new homes from repairing empty historic buildings." Compare that to Labour's 18k council homes built last year. That gap - 670k possible vs 18k delivered - is why changing the 1993 rule matters. Will any Socialist Party speak up or stay silent? source:Historic England

The Cuban people are facing an acute and existential crisis following Donald Trump's January 2025 executive order threatening tariffs against countries supplying oil to the island, weaponising fuel access with the aim of forcing regime change by the end of 2026. This intimidation, combined with the seizure of Venezuelan oil tankers, has cut off Cuba's imported fuel supply, which provides half its electricity generation. Hospitals have cancelled non-urgent care and lack fuel for ambulances, schools and universities have closed, transport has collapsed, food production and distribution are disrupted, and persistent electricity blackouts have made daily life extremely difficult. The UN Human Rights Office has warned that essential services are at risk, with intensive care units and emergency rooms compromised, water pumping equipment failing, and the most vulnerable populations disproportionately affected by a fuel shortage that threatens to cause deaths on a mass scale through the deliberate denial of basic necessities. Sanctions have long been central to US imperialism. Studies published in The Lancet Global Health have calculated that unilateral sanctions cause over half a million deaths worldwide every year, and that US and EU sanctions from 1970 to 2021 resulted in 38 million deaths. Many countries have benefited from Cuban internationalism. Since 1960, over 600,000 Cuban medical professionals have served in more than 180 countries across the Global South, saving and improving millions of lives. South Africa and Namibia owe a particular debt to Cuba. Between 1975 and 1991, hundreds of thousands of Cuban soldiers served in Angola. In March 1988, over fifty thousand Cuban troops defeated South Africa's army at Cuito Cuanavale, forcing withdrawal from Angola and Namibia and opening the way for liberation. As Nelson Mandela stated, "Cuito Cuanavale marks the divide in the struggle for the liberation of southern Africa." 2,070 Cubans gave their lives in this battle. On 21 March people around the world will rally in support of the Cuban people. There will be protests and pickets at US embassies and consulates, cultural events, discussion groups and messages of solidarity recorded on video. *Join the global day of action and stand with the Cuban people!*

@We_OwnIt The National Lottery spends almost £2 billion annually on "good causes" a 1993 rule says you're not permitted to spend a penny on funding social housing. "You don't own it!" Your signature could change this. houselottery.org
