We’re between two eras. That’s the core of it. We’ve started a stylistic shift under Slot. This isn’t Klopp-lite or a continuation job. If it was, we wouldn’t have spent £300m to replace Salah’s output; we’d have just replaced Díaz and carried on leaning on Salah in the same structure. But that’s not the direction the club chose, and it’s not why Slot was hired. On top of that, we’ve had a disrupted pre-season, which has clearly impacted fitness levels and consistency. You can see it in how disconnected we’ve looked at times. Then you’ve got a squad mid-transition: key players ageing or declining, others moving on, injuries, and new players still bedding in. Wirtz, Isak and others need specific types of runners and wide players around them to function properly, that balance isn’t fully in place yet. So what you’re seeing isn’t a settled system failing, it’s an incomplete one taking shape between two cycles. That’s why next season is the first fair point to properly judge it.

Spot on! My concern though is they need to see a visible impact on the importance of the ‘collective’ through fans protesting by not being in the ground, as oppose to a load of yellow cards on 13 minutes which I don’t think would have the same effect as fans missing for YNWA
