Unless Jim Hiller was reading from a script, it appears the top dogs in Ed the Conqueror’s domain have told John Chayka “hands off” Auston Matthews. In the wacky comments to my post from this morning (only 81,000 have bothered to look), there were people that seriously proposed a Matthews to #SanJose trade for “nothing less” than Celebrini, Misa and the No. 2 pick tomorrow. Not one of the three. ALL three. That is genuine illness, folks. It can be cured only by witnessing how the Leafs move quickly forward once Auston is elsewhere. Whether it be two years from now or at the draft this weekend. Everyone is so afraid to let go. A full decade of disappearance in the playoffs simply doesn’t register.
