Funny, you’re (falsely) convinced that St Athanasius held to the Agnoetae heresy, when even your own Emperor Justinian cited him against the Agnoetae heresy. Either way, St Theodore the Monk explains that he was not preaching the Agnoetae heresy: “Thus, the holy Athanasius says in his letter to Serapion about the divinity of the Son and the Holy Spirit in this manner: ‘Furthermore, that which is rightly said, but misunderstood by them—I am referring to “no one knows the day or hour, not the angels of God nor the Son” (Mt 24.36; Mk 13.32)— has a correct meaning. They think that it is evident from the statement “nor the Son” that He is a creature. But it is not so; far from it. Just as when it is said, “He created me,” He speaks in a human manner, so when He says “nor the Son,” He speaks in a human manner. And there is a good reason for speaking thus. For it is written that He became man, and it is proper for humans to be ignorant, just as it is to hunger and the like. Humans do not know unless they hear and learn; therefore, because He became man, He showed ignorance.’ You have heard what kind of ignorance accuses all humans collectively. Does he speak of any individual human or of ignorance of any specific thing? But what kind of ignorance is this? ‘Humans do not know unless they hear and learn.’ Behold, that (humans) have knowledge by receiving or acquiring it, not from themselves, he calls ‘ignorance.’ Therefore, he confidently added: ‘Therefore, because He became man, He showed ignorance.’ As if to say: although our Redeemer's humanity is enriched with innumerable knowledges of all things, it does not bring forth this knowledge from itself, but it is perfected in this knowledge due to the hypostatic union with the Word of God, just as in other honors and operations, since the union itself. Therefore, he says: ‘for this reason, there is a good reason that he spoke thus.’” - St Theodore the Monk, Refutation of Agnoetae

Hmm, fair point. Maybe instead I should have shown your saint describing a male emperor lying in bed with another man, kissing him mouth to mouth, and pressing his face upon his “members”: as an analogy for God and repentant sinners. You can blame all these low blows on C2A

@reformedroom Because those two natures are either 2 essences or hypostases; if latter -> nestorianism, if former no essence without hypostasis -> nestorianism, if essence without hypostasis -> universal incarnation, if humanity’s hypostasis is the pre-eternal divine hypostasis -> changed god

@GloveAcademia @miaphysite3 God is not the holy fire in Jerusalem that the sacristan lights up according to their admission. You’re a pagan if you think that the substance of fire is God.

A short thread 🧵 of quotes from St. Severus of Antioch on theoria and the Uncreated Light of the Trinity: “'If the eye of the mind (tar'ithâ) is purified and if it takes pleasure in upper theoria and in the entirely divine revelations... this happiness will pass into the bones and penetrate there as a perfume',” — St Severus of Antioch, Homily LXVIII. 1/8.

@CCyrillian @10Kidus @C2Antiquity Running from debates is habitual for them, so he will continue to lie under the guise of *just a catechumen* *not allowed to debate.*

Anyone know if @C2Antiquity has accepted any of 2-3 debate challenges that have been offered to him so far from the OO side? Surely if you have a blessing to attack other churches, then you have a blessing to be publicly cross-examined on those same attacks.

The palamites will never be satisfied until one makes God into a dyad of his essence and energy, as well as man into pure actuality. Everyone who rejects it is then by definition rejecting “theosis,” according to them; which, in actuality, is no theosis but apotheosis.

How do the Copts understand this verse?: “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be ** partakers of the divine nature, ** having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” 2 Peter 1:4

“You, O mighty one, O divine creature you are the one to whom God the Son said: Abide in Me, and I in you, as the branch abides in the vine. You are the one at whose door God knocks, desiring that you open to Him, that He may enter and dine with you and you with Him and with you make home. You are the image of God, bearing His attributes: behold how the Lord Christ, glory be to Him, says of Himself, "I am the Light of the world," and then turns to you and your brethren and says, "You are the light of the world." You are the one called to strive toward likeness to God, as as appears from the saying of the Lord , glory be to Him: "you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect." You are the person in whom God took delight to call His son, He did not will to call the angels or the archangels His sons, but called you alone. O divine creature, You are the one for whom the Lord poured water and washed your feet, wiping them with the towel with which He was girded. You are the one of whose bodily members the Apostle declared that they are the members of Christ!! You alone are the one of whom it is said that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you. You are the one whom the angels long to be like, O you who alone partake of the Lord's most pure Body and Blood; O you of whom the Lord has said that He wills (desired) you to be one in Him and in the Father.” — H.H Pope Shenouda III (as Nazir Gayed Roufail), The Release of the Spirit, Sunday School Magazine, July 1951.
