One year ago, @rramesh25 and I took a leap of faith, leaving Freshworks to start Highperformr AI. Now, we celebrated our first anniversary! 🚀 Reflecting on our journey, we've launched our flagship product, received positive feedback, and built a robust project pipeline.

This is the pattern: Build an AI agent. Go viral. Get absorbed by the platform. If your moat is a wrapper, your exit is an acqui-hire. If you're lucky. The real question isn't "can you build an AI agent?" Anyone can. It's "can you build something the platforms can't just replicate?" What's next??

Still hiring engineers to write code? You're already behind. The earnings calls don't lie. Spotify's best devs stopped coding in December. Meta's agentic coding gave them 30% more output per engineer. Zuckerberg: "projects that used to require big teams now accomplished by a single very talented person." Microsoft's Copilot business is already larger than franchises that took decades to build. This isn't hype. This is happening at scale right now. Palantir compressed years of SAP migrations into 2 weeks. Planning time from 160 hours to 10 minutes. ServiceNow: one customer going from 80% human-led to 80% automated. Salesforce's $900M AI ARR growing 120% YoY. Shopify's AI search orders up 15x. HubSpot's Prospecting Agent booking nearly 2x meetings. Atlassian's Rovo hitting 5M MAUs. Datadog's 11x growth in MCP tool calls in a single quarter. The shift from "technical builder" to "AI-leveraged builder" isn't coming. It's here. The uncomfortable truth? Clarity and judgment are now more valuable than pure coding ability. The builders who survive are the ones who can think, decide, and ship fast — not the ones who write the most elegant code. Ramesh and I are diving deep into this on Outbound — what the data actually tells us and what you need to do about it.

Most teams today: • See signals • Don’t know what to do with them • Still send generic messages The real shift isn’t “signal-based prospecting.” It’s signal → context → action. Without context, signals are just noise. Without workflows, they’re just dashboards. The winners won’t be the teams with more signals. They’ll be the teams that turn signals into timely, relevant moves.

I have never believed that Congress will walk out of its alliance with the DMK. Politically, it is not even a realistic possibility. Over the past few months, I have spoken to senior Congress leaders who are working closely with Rahul Gandhi for many years, and they were absolutely clear on one thing: Congress is not coming out of the DMK alliance. There was no ambiguity. No “if” or “but.” The decision is already settled internally. In Tamil Nadu, Congress has no independent influence, no real vote bank, and no organisational strength. Without the DMK, Congress cannot survive politically in this state. This is not just about state politics. The same dependency exists at the Centre. In Parliament, Congress relies heavily on DMK’s MP seats to retain leverage, visibility, and bargaining strength. Without DMK MPs, Congress’s role in national coalition politics weakens significantly. Walking away from the DMK would mean losing numbers in Parliament, shrinking national leverage, and committing political suicide. So what is happening now? Congress is using TVK as a bargaining chip to apply pressure on the DMK. The message is simple: “We have other options.” This has nothing to do with ideology. Nothing to do with people’s politics. This is pure seat arithmetic, power calculation, and survival at the Centre. The irony is that national parties with no real relevance in Tamil Nadu are receiving disproportionate attention. Why? One name. Vijay. One factor. TVK. Touch the Vijay factor, and media and social media amplify everything. That is exactly what Congress is doing. TVK is not the target. Vijay is not the target. The DMK is. This is pressure politics, nothing more. And in the end, nothing will change. Congress will remain dependent on the DMK in Tamil Nadu, and dependent on DMK MP seats for its survival and relevance in national politics. This is not ideology. This is not principle. This is survival politics.

AI makes senior architects more productive and reduces the need for junior engineers. The architect needs to understand the requirements as well as the technology stack well, to be able to guide the AI and fine tune its output. But if we don't have junior engineers, we don't get to train the next generation of architects - after all how does someone become a software architect without being a junior engineer first? I am still thinking through how this gets resolved.

@svembu I’d lean toward Option 1, give users control Default privacy is great, but flexibility matters because not all chats need the same level How you’re thinking about showing the encryption state inside the chat UI so it’s obvious when a conversation is e2ee?

Below is how the Arattai app design looks now. We offer a tab e2ee (for end to end encrypted) and any user can set that as the default for all personal chats. We will have end to end for group chats (up to some group size limit) later. Now your feedback needed on: (Option 1) Any user can make e2ee default for all their one to one chats or pick a particular chat to be in e2ee mode. The app will go to e2ee even if one of the parties has set e2ee as their only mode and the other user has not set e2ee as their only mode. (Option 2) We are also thinking of Arattai system wide default of e2ee for all one-to-one chats. This means that e2ee mode is the only option available for one to one chats. Group chats in e2ee mode will arrive later. Some people do like the option of cloud based chat for some of their chats (device storage limits don't matter) so we have been thinking of option 1 but we could easily adopt option 2 (option 2 is cheaper for us!). Feedback please 🙏

This video was posted by @MananNatani1 with the following message: “Sir, maybe you havent seen the theme across your products, but you have more than one Caped Crusader in there… @anandmahindra Used some AI and your own ads to put this together, what do you think?” Well, Manan, I think it always takes a pair of ‘fresh eyes’ to help join some dots that we may not see! And I think it’s a great video…Brooding, haunting, perfectly evocative… And terrific soundtrack. Don’t tell me that’s AI generated too??

On Arattai, we have initiated discussions with Sharad Sharma of iSpirt, the group that did the technical work to make UPI happen, to standardize and publish the messaging protocols. I am a huge fan of UPI and hugely respect the work the team did. Sharad is a good friend and he will guide us in this objective. These systems need to be interoperable like UPI and email and not closed like WhatsApp today. We do not want to be a monopoly ever. We are committed to that goal and we will work with iSpirt to make this happen.

In many ways AI progress feels incremental. Remember the GPT-2 to 3 jump or 3 to 4. It was mind-blowing even for pure consumers, who now can’t tell how GPT-5 is an upgrade. BUT there is one capability where progress is clear and measurable: Autonomous agents. In one year Replit Agent, for example, went from being able to do useful work for 2 minutes max to now up to 6 hours! It no longer feels like using software, and more like delegating work to a digital employee. Why is this a big deal? AI will start to transform the economy. Consumer chatbots are limited in terms of economic change—although I don’t think we’ve seen the end of sociological change from it—but the sky is the limit in terms of automating work. I bet by 2027, we’ll see the impact very clearly in macro-economic measures. You wouldn’t have to look for it to see it. However, I also think that the world will not look that much different, and many predictions will look absurd. Reports like “AI 2027” are works of fiction than actual attempt at informing the public. How we work will change, but we can adapt to that very quickly in the same way we adapted to Zoom and then people will look around and ask where is the scifi future we were promised. It’s important for policymakers to get sober and start thinking clearly about the implications for the economy, unemployment, and economic inequality without engaging in fantasy. The change is real, coming, and fairly predictable in terms of what it could look like.
Julian Schrittwieser@Mononofu

As a researcher at a frontier lab I’m often surprised by how unaware of current AI progress public discussions are. I wrote a post to summarize studies of recent progress, and what we should expect in the next 1-2 years: julian.ac/blog/2025/09/2…

We have faced a 100x increase in Arattai traffic in 3 days (new sign-ups went vertical from 3K/day to 350K/day). We are adding infrastructure on an emergency basis for another potential 100x peak surge. That is how exponentials work. As we add a lot more infrastructure, we are also fine tuning and updating the code to fix issues as they arise. We have all-hands-on-deck working flat out. As a matter of fact, we had planned on a big release by November, with a lot of the features you expect, a huge capacity addition and a marketing push. And then it suddenly went vertical! We have a lot more planned for Arattai, please give us some time. Thank you for your patience and support! Jai Hind 🙏

We have 2 SaaStr AI apps that use a material number of tokens - Our Start Up Valuation Calculator uses OpenAI API, costs $0.0002 per valuation or so - Our VC Pitch Analyzer uses up to 4 complex passes of Claude API, costs up to $0.20 per VC deck reviewed (for now) Different tools for different jobs. Claude does a much better job incorporating all our data into a 4 pass prompt for most complex parts of VC pitch analyzer. But .. but … honestly I could switch the second tool in 10 minutes to GPT 5 now. Really, in 60 seconds. Just telling @Replit to make the change. I’d have to QA it which has a mental tax, but at < 50% the price, if it was better … such a low switching cost.
