❗️An Irish refinery of alumina (used to make aluminum) has been sending most of its exports to Russia, and then they were used to make weapons to kill Ukrainians. Aughinish Alumina has increased its exports of alumina to Russian smelters. After arriving in Russia, the alumina is processed into aluminum, then sold on until they reach Russian weapons manufacturers. EU has not introduced restrictions on alumina exports to Russia, although EU member states were urged to stockpile alumina themselves - it is very important for industry and defense.

Putin isn't complicated. One of his core beliefs is that Gorbachev was wrong with his "perestroika and glasnost" response to the clearly collapsing USSR, and that MORE repression could have held it all together. As unrest grows, he's going to simply attempt to murder everyone in Russia. Good news for Ukraine is that the troops will be required at home as it'll be too much for Rosgvardiya.

Over the past week, Russia launched nearly 1,550 attack drones against Ukraine, more than 1,260 guided aerial bombs, and two missiles. Over that same week, due to the easing of sanctions, Russia increased its crude oil sales to finance its war. Revenues give Russia a sense of impunity and the ability to continue the war. That is why pressure must continue and sanctions must work. Russia’s shadow fleet must not feel safe in European waters or anywhere else. Tankers that serve the war budget can and must be stopped and blocked, not just let go. I thank every leader who makes such decisions. This is what brings a dignified peace closer.
