We are deeply saddened by the passing of Bill Atkinson. He was a true visionary whose creativity, heart, and groundbreaking work on the Mac will forever inspire us. Our thoughts are with his loved ones.

Marron Carrel Computer (Apple //e mod), 1983 The computer controlled the movements of the Marron Carrel camera compound stage using a special expansion card. The stage moved in 1/10,000th of an inch, while the Marron Carrel CM-1400 camera made multiple exposures on the film to achieve elaborate effects on each frame. The computer also controlled the up and down movement of the camera itself to create zoom effects, and thanks to the movements of the stage, it was possible to combine zooms and blurs on a single frame. The Marron Carrel camera system for special effects and animation for professional films was used in a semi-darkroom environment; everything around the system was black, including the walls in most cases. Apple prepared a special case for Marron Carrel, and only several hundred of these systems were sold worldwide. I was exceptionally lucky to buy one of these in 2017. I haven't seen it on auctions since. If you know any more interesting facts, please write here.

Macintosh Colour Classic after cleaning and retrobright. I'll take some nice photos and put them up for sale. I have to pay rent for the warehouse for the whole collection, and my personal financial reserves have already dried up 🙁

PowerBook 540c (1994-1995) The 500 series introduced many modern solutions and significant changes in appearance. The enclosure, designed by the Apple Industrial Design Group, led by Robert Brunner, has become more rounded, almost aerodynamic. Apparently, the inspiration for the round design was the strategic reconnaissance aircraft — Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird — reflected in the code names: Blackbird, SR-71 and Spruce Goose. One of the first notebook computers in the world, featuring a trackpad, used as a pointing device — the cursor followed the movement of the finger on a small „pad”. It replaced the trackball popularized by Apple. It is the world's first laptop with built-in stereo speakers, 16-bit stereo sound, and the first to feature a built-in Ethernet as standard. It included a 9.5” 16-bit color active matrix and a 68LC040 33 MHz processor on a „daughter” card. The device's sleep function was also applied for the first time. It activated after lid-closure. The system also set the LCD screen to sleep after connecting to an external monitor. The 500 series laptops had two cavities on both sides, into which the user could insert two batteries or the module for PCMCIA cards developed by Apple. It was the first laptop to receive a full-size keyboard with function keys and a NiMH intelligent battery with a built-in circuitry, aimed at monitoring it. The top-of-the-range model was priced at $5,500 (equivalent of today’s $8,800 today). Photo: Jacek Lupina / Apple Museum Poland

The Apple Remote was used across many of Apple's products including controlling Front Row on the Mac, operating the iPod Hi-Fi, navigating the Apple TV, and serving as a media controller for the iPod.

PowerBook 550c (1995-1996) The rarest edition, produced and sold exclusively in Japan, due to non-FCC certification. In 1995, the Apple Japan branch received approval to develop a modification, which would meet the needs of the Asian market. The first thing that catches the eye is its color. This is Apple's first black laptop. The keyboard has katakana symbols. The size of the matrix was increased without expanding the external dimensions, which resulted in an asymmetrical width of the frame around which the screen brightness adjustment buttons were located. The 550c model has an active matrix of 10.4”, a faster 68040 33 MHz processor and a larger hard disk — 750 MB.
