$7.25 an hour is about $14,000 a year. No one can survive on that. People can barely survive on double that. We raised the minimum wage in Illinois. It's long overdue everywhere else.

This is because they are purposely ignoring the phenomenon of "leftward drift" that plagued the court for decades. Harry Blackmun (appointed by Nixon): Authored Roe v. Wade and became a staunchly reliable liberal vote. John Paul Stevens (appointed by Ford): Initially voted conservative. By the time he retired in 2010 he was considered the leader of the liberal bloc. David Souter (appointed by George HW Bush): Initially thought to be a home run pick for conservatives, he betrayed Republicans by voting to the left on almost every culture war issue. Earl Warren (appointed by Eisenhower): A former Republican governor, his leftward drift was so dramatic, Eisenhower later called his appointment the biggest mistake he ever made. The Supreme Court has been liberal for the past 75 years.

I live in Virginia, and tomorrow I’ll be voting no. But I won’t pretend to be surprised if we come up short. The last four years have been marked by zero unified messaging, zero red wave, and zero meaningful, common-sense protections put in place for Virginians. Anyone who’s been paying attention understands this. None of this should be shocking. The stage has been set- we’re just watching it play out.
