In 2022 the media (led by Toyota) freaked out about lithium scarcity, evidenced by prices "going through the roof". I explained lithium wasn't scarce and it was just production catching up. But that wasn't dramatic enough. Now look at lithium prices. tradingeconomics.com/commodity/lith…

@drvolts Consider that the battery stores energy input to the heat pump, whereas the water tank stores energy output. So if the heat pump COP is 3, the tank is storing one-third the heating/cooling power per kWh.

Tomorrow I'm recording a pod with a company that is selling heat pumps hooked up to large water tanks which serve as thermal batteries. This allows the system to time-shift when it charges & discharges to save money & emissions.
