To honor authenticity, Spiral Studio received invaluable support from the great Gino Acevedo, Creature Paint Designer and Supervisor of Godzilla 1998, who personally supervised the painting process to ensure the coloration and surface treatment match the original model used during the film’s production. The result is not interpretation — it is preservation, from the clear pearlescent blue on each of its scale, multiple layers of contrast colors on serrated dorsal fins, to lizard-like wet skin. To further enhance realism to its absolute peak, we have implemented semi-curved glass eyes — crafted using the same approach as those used on the original animatronic. This subtle yet crucial detail breathes life into the sculpture, creating depth, moisture, and a natural refraction that cannot be replicated by conventional materials. We also did not hold back on the coloring. Special paint has been applied so that the blue contrast will only appear under certain lighting, just like the actual models used in the movie production. All this can happen thanks to the great Gino Acevedo.

On 9 January 2026, the completed 70th Anniversary Godzilla statue was officially installed at its permanent location at Godzilla Store Malaysia. Earlier this year, Spiral Studio was entrusted by Toho Co., Ltd. with a remarkable mission — to create a two-meter-tall Godzilla statue for the new Godzilla Store Taipei, Taiwan. It was an immense challenge and a true honor for our team. Excluding the monumental installations such as Godzilla 1989’s head at Hotel Gracery Shinjuku and Godzilla 2016 on Awaji Island, this project stands among the largest Godzilla statues ever created in the world. Our directive from Toho was clear and inspiring: to deliver the most realistic Godzilla 2023 statue possible — a vision that perfectly aligned with the founding philosophy of Spiral Studio: to create the most authentic and artistically faithful Godzilla sculptures in existence. With a masterful sculpt by Tanaka Kenichi-sensei, and meticulously detailed paintwork by Pattaraporn Phaktrabumrung, our in-house painter, we proudly fulfilled the task entrusted to us.
