Fascinating Saint & Greavsie interview from this week in 1991, with FA Chief Executive Graham Kelly, discussing the proposal for a new Premier League in English football. Ironic how Ian and Jimmy are all for the idea here, but just 12 months later they won’t even be part of it.

On this day in 1992, Leeds Utd were crowned First Division champions. That afternoon ITV went live to Lee Chapman’s house, where the tea (not champers) was flowing with Cantona, Batty & McAllister. Calm down lads, those celebrations are out of control…

On this day in 1992, one of the last episodes of Saint & Greavsie was aired on ITV. Here they take the piss out of celebrity match reports in the Sunday Express. The lads know the end is near at this point, and Jimmy Greaves just doesn’t care anymore…

On this day in 1984: Anderlecht beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 (3-2 on agg) in the UEFA Cup semi-final second leg. Dodgy refereeing decisions went against Brian Clough’s men, including this penalty award. In 1997, it was revealed that the ref had received £18,000 to fix the match.

On Stuart Pearce’s 64th birthday, a reminder of his final match as a player in 2002. Stuck on 99 career goals, an injury time penalty is given at Maine Road. Dave Beasant even tells Pearce he’s going to stand still. The scene is set to retire in style…

On St George’s Day, here’s Sir Bobby Robson going through a rollercoaster of emotions whilst watching England vs Brazil in 2002. As patriotic as they come. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Today marks 35 years since we were treated to ‘The David White Show’ at Villa Park. In a career best performance, here are all FOUR of White’s goals, as Manchester City thrashed Aston Villa 5-1. What a night. What a player.

It’s 35 years to the day since Les Sealey went mental at his own physio during the Rumbelows Cup final, for trying to take him off injured. “He’s upset with the physio for something, look at this!” Incredible scenes at Wembley.

Today in 1991, Yorkshire Television infamously cut away from Sheffield Wednesday’s celebrations, when other ITV regions stayed at Wembley. Instead choosing to show a 1986 recording of ‘War of the Monster Trucks,’ leaving thousands of fans fuming at home.

It’s 35 years today since Sheffield Wednesday became the last second tier club to win a major English trophy. And Nigel Pearson was presented the League Cup by 24-year-old Tracey Bateman, the Rumbelows ‘Employee of the Year.’ What a time to be alive.

It’s 29 years to the day since Chris Sutton’s lovely bit of gamesmanship at Highbury. Here Arsenal get the ball back after an injury, but Sutton forces a corner, which leads to a last minute Blackburn equaliser. No rules broken, so nothing to see here…

Today marks 33 years since Arsenal and Sheffield Wednesday faced each other in the Coca-Cola Cup final at Wembley. It was the first ever European club match to use squad numbers and have names on the back of the shirts. Game changer.
