Incase you ain’t following what’s happening today I was in area 2 and I asked a few mwenyes on why they ain’t giving up on their protest. The following is what they told me
MRA vs businesses standoff isn’t just about VAT, it’s about reality vs policy.
Govt: “You collected VAT, remit it.”
Businesses: “We’re buying forex at black market rates,but taxed using lower official rates, making profits look bigger than they are.”
That mismatch is the real issue not the new system.

At some point, we normalized public office bearers assaulting and ridiculing people in public as a way to “prove” they were doing their jobs. Then we went began electing individuals whose only approach to addressing issues is violence and intimidation. This is deeply shameful.
