@_simmyyyyy I just made this choice (completed everything but PhD exam, diss proposal/ document). I walked into my advisor's office and said "I don't want to do this anymore!" I'm so so so glad I chose my health and happiness. You'll make the right choice if you listen to yourself.

I really wish I quit my PhD program the first time I felt like I wanted to. Because now I'm so far in quitting seems like a mistake and I repeatedly hype myself up to continue and finish. But I constantly feel like I'm on the verge of a mental breakdown trying to continue.

I love that my advisor insisted I read Hillbilly Elegy and I claimed that I did not want to because it is trash and, now that I am reading it, I can (further) argue that it is trash.

This is one of my favorite things. "Artur Rodzinski... bitterly denounced jazz yesterday, saying it led to "war degeneracy." He said he considered devotees of Sinatra "pitiful cases." Sinatra promptly replied that he had heard "some pretty awful classical music in my time."
