A close friend of mine took up a one-month teaching contract in Kochi, and what should have been a professional opportunity has become an emotionally exhausting experience for her. She has struggled to find vegetarian food that suits her preferences. I honestly didn't believe her at first when she complained, until I opened multiple food delivery apps myself to order something for her. Only then did I realize how difficult she was finding it. She also says she has been mocked by colleagues for wearing traditional Indian attire, a salwar suit, bindi, and kumkum. No one should be ridiculed for choosing to dress according to their culture or faith. That is unacceptable in any workplace. What disturbed me even more is that she has repeatedly been invited to attend church services after being asked personal questions such as, "How is your family treating you?", "Do you have any loans?", and "Is everything okay back home?" She felt these conversations were attempts to persuade her to convert, and that made her deeply uncomfortable. Every individual has the right to practise their own religion without being pressured in any direction. Unfortunately for anyone who underestimated her convictions, she spent three years serving our Guru at one of the most revered Panchabhuta Sthalas, where she was treated like a granddaughter. She is deeply rooted in her faith, practises Devi Sadhana, and spends every weekend visiting temples wherever she goes. She has just ten more days left before she returns home, and I genuinely hope those days pass peacefully. These Religions are infesting our country from within, they have already taken Pakistan and Bangladesh and it is still not enough. If you think your interfaith friend is secular, think twice.. No Hindu should ever feel isolated, mocked for their traditions, or pressured over their faith while simply trying to do their job. Respecting another person's beliefs is not optional, it is the minimum expected in a civil society.

Why do kids have to start school so early? 🤔 I went for a walk at 7:30 AM and saw children waiting for their school buses, half asleep and yawning. I feel school should start at least at 9 AM. I can't see them like that.

@subashr232 It’s a combination of many factors such as-lack of educational opportunities, poorer remuneration, lower quality of work, too much focus on service as opposed to manufacturing/development. Lastly and most importantly a very skewed social framework which makes things uncertain.

Came across a stat last week which said 32% of Chennai households don't have kids living with them. Parents living in solitude. Kids have migrated to other cities and countries for greener pastures. Gericare will be a big business in such cities. If you are an entrepreneur, seize that moment. If you are a policy maker, introspect. Why did one-third of next gen migrate out? Can't we create the greener pastures here itself? Did we fail to create?

@Raja_Sw There was a brilliant article on this in India Today in the late 80’s. Their study had shown how the percentage of students getting in to IIT and REC then were heavily skewed to children of parents of parents with privilege. The divide has only increased..

Raja - awaaz do, hum ek hain
Children of wealthy folks and politicians find a way to progress in life anyway. They have their network, social capital, family funding etc. It is the middle and lower-middle classes that appear for exams like NEET, hoping to change their future. Paper leak hits them hardest.

@ShekharGupta I’m sorry but all you journalists brought it on to yourself. Loss of ethics and lack of integrity is the reason. Else even today the likes of LK Jha et al remain respected. Look at your profession today&you will notice that the most unsavoury people abound. This is the reason.

No Vijeta. We can’t leave it to the mobs to decide which journalist to love or hate. All journalists, senior or not, must feel entirely safe on the job. One mob’s good ‘guy’ is another’s monster. This trend began during Anna movement and many partisans cheered it. It was wrong then, is wrong now.
Vijaita Singh@vijaita

People need to make a distinction between hate spewing TV news anchors/presenters/senior journalists and TV reporters, most of whom are extremely hardworking.

@VAAChandran Messi isn’t the first unpleasant Argentine player and won’t be the last. They are similar across sports most certainly in field hockey too. The whole team seemed like mercenaries. Very unsavoury bunch of people.

@deeptiraonayak @vmanjunath Ah ok I get it. Was telling my wife now and her instant retort was remember how we improvised when kids were young ? This again I think is a part of growing up of parents as much as it is of kids

@AlishaJain01 @arthsystem1 These people are so poor that they sell stolen chappals to feed their families. The fact that your fellow citizens need to resort to this level of crime should be food for thought. Also you’ve casually demonstrated how common spaces are abused all signs of entitlement&privilege.

indian vegetarians travelling abroad and making gag faces at local non-vegetarian cuisine is the fastest way to make the entire country look entitled. you're a guest. act like one. if you don't like the food, don't eat it. nobody forced a spoon to your mouth. but the dramatics, the commentary, the covering your face while posting online. that's not morality but bad manners…

@jillsdaniel This is the difference between literacy and education. Dr Parvathy is literate to be a doctor but uneducated to be a paediatrician. A children’s doctor unaware of the meaning of her shops name is as dangerous as the perps who do it.
