The WHCD ever being held at the White House would defeat the entire purpose of the event. It is meant to celebrate the independence of the press. The president is an invited guest, not the host.

So if we have to build a White House ballroom because it’s no longer safe for Trump to appear at hotels, then why is he still going to his resorts, when one of the attempts was at his resort?

Anyone suggesting we should stop accurately pointing out factual ways that the president is wrecking this country on a daily basis, or expressing an opinion about that, because of something a random nut does is espousing a profoundly un-American concept that I completely reject.

i think it's important to note that the correspondents dinner wouldn't be at a White House ballroom even if it were built. The dinner is not a White House event. It's a WHCA event. Also, Trump had never attended before (would he host a dinner he didn't attend).

Diamondbacks infielder Ildermaro Vargas, who was signed out of the independent leagues 11 years ago and is in his third stint with Arizona, continues his dream start. He hits a 3-run homer and has now hit safely in all 17 games he has played this year.

Blanche downplays Trump's $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS and effort to route taxpayer dollars directly into his pockets: "The DOJ handles complicated decisions involved those types of issues every day all day. Not just this DOJ, every DOJ handles issues like that."

KARL: Is the president really prepared to go back to full-on war? Is he prepared to destroy every power plant and bridge in Iran? MIKE WALTZ: Well, all options are on the table, absolutely. That's not a war crime. KARL: He's saying every bridge in the country. That's not a war crime? WALTZ: That would be an escalatory ladder

A new watchdog report from the Government Accountability Oversight Project alleges that President Donald Trump directed $3 billion in federal funds toward his own properties and political allies. The report claims this was achieved through a series of classified security agreements and no-bid contracts authorized during his final year in office. Investigators suggest that emergency national security designations allowed these properties to receive federal payments at rates significantly higher than market value. The most substantial allegation involves a $1.2 billion security agreement at Mar-a-Lago, an amount that reportedly exceeds the security budget of any private residence in U.S. history. While the Trump legal team has dismissed these findings as a partisan attack, federal investigators are currently reviewing the data. If verified, this would represent the largest alleged self-dealing scheme by a president in the history of the United States. Critics have noted that the funds in question were drawn from the national treasury, which traditionally supports essential services such as veterans' hospitals and disaster relief. While no formal charges have been filed, the scale of the alleged diverted funds has sparked intense debate over executive accountability. The Government Accountability Office has yet to issue a formal comment on the specific findings of the report.

I'm increasingly of the view that all the endless theorizing around the reasons for Trump's ascendance -- tweaks to GOP policy platform, disdain for the "establishment," whatever -- are mostly irrelevant, and the main reason is that he's just consistently, authentically hilarious
