@codytfenwick @LinchZhang I'm referring specifically to the question of potential capability. We've established that economic expertise is highly relevant to the question of whether humans can make enough to survive given some particular level of capability
English

@sullyj3 @LinchZhang Well it's a bit trickier than that, because questions of AI and unemployment are speculative and involve cross-domain expertise. So it's not obvious who should defer to whom.
English

I'm pretty frustrated by the econ shallowness of ppl like Marc and his commenters.
Comparative advantage guarantees humans will have something to specialize in. It doesn't guarantee the market-clearing wage for that something is livable, or even meaningfully above zero.
I think ppl who don't know much econ (but think they do) conflate comparative advantage with absolute advantage, while at the same time complaining about other ppl who do the same.
The answer to humans surviving and thriving (assuming we solve a minimal version of alignment that we don't all die) comes from answers to questions in areas like political economy and political philosophy, not loosely overgeneralizing far beyond what basic microeconomics could claim.
Marc Andreessen 🇺🇸@pmarca
AI employment doomerism is rooted in the socialist fallacy of lump of labor. It is wrong now for the same reason it’s always been wrong. More people really should try to learn about this. The AI will teach you about it if you ask! (Hinton is a socialist. youtube.com/shorts/R-b8RR6…)
English

@codytfenwick @LinchZhang to the extent this is true, it's a disagreement on a subject outside their field, so maybe they should consider deferring
English

@LinchZhang FWIW I think a lot of sophisticated econ thinkers do agree with Marc's view and think employment concerns are silly.
I think this comes down to not a misunderstanding about econ but just a disagreement about whether AI will ever be capable enough to cheaply replace human labor.

@Pandora_Delaney maybe there's a point if we also take the boyfriends' holes into consideration

@FNazis85244 @ciphergoth I'm not in the us, and the graph is CPI adjusted
English

@sullyj3 @ciphergoth Bro has never heard of inflation. Is this ur first day in the US lol. Mf our entire economy is built on infinite growth. Which means price increases and inflation are a built in mechanism.
I get why ur saying that but in reality very few industries see this actually happen
English

@Anon76546854773 @ciphergoth says me. Do you have an explanation for why this isn't happening?
English

@ciphergoth prices are supposed to go down over time as tech improves and competition increases!

@thereisnobeth i wish we had HSPs in America my girlfriend is an aussie and it looks like the greatest fucking thing on the planet
English

@tautologer I think the problem you would ultimately run into is that much of disagreement is ambiguity of language, higher simulacrum level wanking, meta norm disagreements and other non-propositional sludge that takes an inordinate amount of time to wade through to get to the actual claims
English

@freemaowtf we need brave volunteer countries to call them parmes and parmus to complete the set
English

@austinc3301 @NLRG_it I don't think that answers the question, it just becomes "why does it curve spacetime as well as resisting motion"
English

@NLRG_it Yes, under Newtonian physics, but under general relativity, gravity isn't a force at all. Mass curves spacetime itself, and objects just follow the straightest path through that curved space. Gravitational charge just isn't a thing; only inertial mass exists.
English

@DrAlecPelwater @madeofmistak3 that was how I got my start in the criminal lifestyle
English

@AaronBergman18 Espresso and Juno are great. Not as much of a fan of the "men suck I fantasize about graphically murdering my exes" schtick
English

@SeanMombo That's wild. It's not a teams responsibility to take care of the other teams feelings. You've got to be able to emotionally handle getting destroyed. It's just good sportsmanship
English

@mishapathy lmao no I was an unwitting participant in this struggle of yours
