Madison, Wisc. (July 24) — BLM and far-left protesters shut down the streets for a direct action calling for defunding and abolishing law enforcement. They harass diners on the street and one white liberal diner claps for them. The direct action was mobilized after @madisonpolice shot and killed a violent criminal named Corey Ruiz. Ruiz used a knife to injure an officer before being shot. He has at least 40 criminal convictions for violent crimes including robbery.

I like @bronzeagemantis idea of setting up an executive branch judicial review board. Why can’t the executive branch get creative and set up a committee to give these judicial rulings the long *careful deliberation they are due, before the executive branch commits. Do lower court decisions align with recent correct Supreme court rulings? Do ambiguous destructive Supreme Court rulings leave a lot to be debated and interpreted? All this can be solved with a very thorough review board. This is important stuff after all.

OPEN DEFIANCE: A federal judge is blocking the Trump administration from ending Temporary Protected Status for South Sudan — just days after the Supreme Court ruled that lower courts largely cannot intervene in TPS termination decisions. U.S. District Judge Patti Saris, a Clinton appointee, granted an administrative stay Thursday preserving TPS protections for South Sudanese nationals while she considers whether plaintiffs can amend their lawsuit to pursue constitutional claims. The Trump administration says she has no jurisdiction to do so after the high court's 6-3 ruling in Mullin v. Doe. DHS counsel James Percival called it "open defiance of the Supreme Court, plain and simple." Legal experts say the case is headed back to the Supreme Court on an emergency basis.

The right is supposedly against "socialism." They see the rise of the DSA as a fundamental threat to the country. Meanwhile, Republicans may well pick JD Vance as their nominee in 2028. Here's a minute and a half of Vance explaining what he thinks about Milton Friedman, Ronald Regan, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders. When he brings up Friedman and Reagan, it's to discuss how much their ideas have failed, and when he brings up Warren and Sanders, it's to talk about how much he agrees with them. At one point, Vance said that Bernie told him something about his politics when he first came into the Senate that was one of the funniest things he had ever heard and would get him into a lot of trouble if it became public. What is this joke? Did Sanders understand that he and Vance fundamentally agree on economic issues? It sounds like Vance thinks it's funny that he's fooled the conservative movement into electing someone who disagrees with everything the party has historically believed. If Republicans have become convinced Bernie Sanders has better economic ideas than Milton Friedman, then I guess they should pick Vance in 2028. But at that point, stop complaining about DSA, because socialism will have conquered the right too.
