There’s a lot to unpack behind the making of Epoch. Hopefully, I’ll get around to doing a proper case study someday. Until then, here’s the shortest version: Weaving. Mixed Media. All the colours of the world. Those three ideas shaped almost every design decision we made. Everything you experienced visually at Epoch, from the branding and signage to the motion graphics and video effects, came from an in-house team of just 5-6 people. It was chaotic, ambitious, and one of the most rewarding projects I’ve worked on.

@sunalsood That makes sense. The cheap part now is getting five directions on the screen. The useful part is still spotting the one that solves the real problem before everyone starts polishing the wrong version.

It's INSANE to me how my design process changed more in the last few months than in the last few years and the part that collapsed isn't the part you'd expect. it used to go: qualitative research, talk to users if i could, dissect the problem is this a solve-from-scratch or an optimisation of something that exists? then into the canvas, moodboard, gather inspo, iterate endlessly. and I didn't consider it done there that was maybe 60% ; the rest was working with devs, design QA, polishing on frontend, shipping, watching the impact, then going again. thorough, but slow. research still takes as long, building context, thinking about the solution and positioning still takes long. What collapsed was the final BUILD and the Experimentation. now it's: research → brainstorm with an LLM → first draft in Claude Code or Codex → experiment in a loop between the model and the canvas → ship, see results → then v2, v3 within days. Experimenting used to be expensive, so you protected one file. Now it's basically free so I throw versions away without attaching myself to any of them if they don't work. Canvas didn't die, BTW. It's still where I think that's where the muscle memory is, but animating it, seeing it real, that's the model now. I keep Figma and paper open over MCP so Claude can read the canvas and code it out. most of my time now goes into tweaking elements, polishing interactions, and writing .Md files, .skills, reference markdowns, systems telling it what good looks like and how to solve better, because that's the part that decides whether the output is any good. And if you're still waiting for the perfect workflow: don't. free plan, run something open-source locally, break things. You'll learn more in a weekend of doing than a month of watching.

This month I spent long hours in hospital waiting rooms while my father was undergoing treatment. To pass the time, I started working on a small iOS app. At first, it was simple. I wanted to make it easier for my parents to read the prayers and mantras they recite every day. Then I asked them a question: "Do you know what these prayers actually mean? Where they come from? Why they're recited?" The answer was a surprise: "Not really." And I realised I wasn't much different. Many of us inherit the words, but not the context. We know verses, but not always the stories. We know rituals, but not always the ideas behind them. When context disappears, it's easy for timeless wisdom to be reduced to isolated quotes, assumptions or oversimplified narratives. [This gap is something that leads to getting steered by people with agendas!] That's when I realised this shouldn't be another prayer app. It should be a place where people can explore the meaning behind these traditions through context, history and understanding. That's how Anvay was born. I'm opening the first beta today, and I'd love your help.
